Just acquired this:

From the auction description:

While the actual time period of the straw boater hat is difficult to determine, the ticket and baseball pins are from the 1910s time period and were affixed to the hat when originally acquired. The 1-3/4" x 2-5/8" grandstand ticket has "Cleveland Base Ball Company" across the top along with a $1.00 admission price (VG/EX). There are two 1" Reach "Official American Association" pins attached to the hatdband (both NM). The hat itself has a 4" split where the top meets the brim, but presents in generally EX condition. A nice, vintage display piece from the early days of the game.

It looks like a low profile leghorn weave pork pie... Sort of.

I look forward to hearing more when you get it. $1.10 would seem an expensive ticket in 1910. I remember general admission to Mets games was $1.30 in the 1960s. Bleachers seats at Yankee Stadium were 75 cents at that time, plus a fifteen cent subway token.

That's a lovely hat, but why are you calling it a boater?

Tom

Yep, I copied the auction's title straight into the thread title field here - I bought it from a baseball memorabilia auction, so they knew next to nothing about hats. If it had actually been a boater, I would not have bid. I've seen pictures of sporting events back in the '20s and earlier, where fans were wearing hats like this, and I collect pre-wwi baseball memorabilia (http://t206themonster.com/), so it was a good cross-over item.

I haven't received it yet, so no additional photos. Also, regarding the ticket price - I completely agree that $1.10 was more than a ticket would have cost back then. The auction house should have known that, but I bought it anyway - heck, back in the '60s we only paid fifty cents for outfield seats at the Astrodome.

I'll post better pics of details once it's in hand.
