Actually, the tale was supposedly cleand up for public consumption. According to Charles Edison, his father claimed that this (slightly) bawdy parody of the old hursery rhyme was the subject of the first recording: "Mary had a new Sheath Gown. It was too tight by half. Who gives a Damn for Mary's lamb when they can see her calf? HA! HA! HA!"
