So.... What are those novel or exciting things that you absolutely, unavoidably, inevitably, necessarily, definitely, and absolutely MUST do before you the time comes to cash in your chips?

Off the top of my head I can mention these:

- Go to Europe by ship (or at least England or Germany)
- Make a long distance train trip
- Make a feature film (animated or otherwise)
- Drive a steam locomotive
- Get lost in a castle at night
- Work at a circus
- Fly on a WWII plane
- Learn to play the clarinet, piano and/or the vibraphone and play in a swing band
- Go to Coney Island (Or what's left of it)

(Ok, those were 9, but you get the idea)

So, what do you really want to do?

Interesting idea....

Fly in space
Own a ranch
Write a book, maybe several
Act (on screen, on stage, big time or small)
Take a year-long motorcycle trip throughout the western US and Canada
Become a competitive bobsled driver
Learn scubadiving
Go on a photo safari in Africa (as long as I don't have to fly in a commercial airplane to get there)
Work as an Alaskan bush pilot
Make enough money to endow a no-kill animal shelter when I'm gone

A wish list before the big chill:

See an aurora borealis, the Northern Lights. Saw one, mother says, when I was very little and did not know what I was looking at, thought it was some sort of fireworks. I don't remember it, but do recall some eerie fireworks.

See the Southwest again, including my favorite place, Monument Valley.

It would be nice to visit Paris, sip wine on the Left Bank, visit homes of famous expatriots from the Belle Epoque era and also after WW I.

Write some more

Paint some more

Adopt another dog

Travel with friends

See some good movies

Read some good books

Learn new and interesting things to keep my mind alive and life joyous

The ten things I want to do will come throughout the rest of my life. I don't know what they are right now, but will as time goes by.

I just wanna visit the Lourve (probably spelled wrong) and Hollywood. I want to visit all my favourite actors' and actresses' graves.

Both of these goals are attainable, too. My husband is from London, so when we go and visit his family they said they would take me to Paris to the Lourve. They also want to take us to Hollywood next time they visit the US. "Visiting" my favourite movie stars is very important to me and it's something I really wanna do.

Meanwhile, I'm going to "visit" those buried close to where I live very soon: John Barrymore, Margaret Livingston, and Connie Bennett.

I don't know about "novel"...but there are certain things I want to do before I die.

1. Make the rounds one more time, and let everyone close to me know that I love them.

2. Live in Ireland for at least a year. Spend time in Sligo, Galway, and make extended trips to the countryside.

3. Spend time figuring out my genealogy - specifically the Irish side of my family. But I am also curious about the Slovak and Scottish sides.

4. Visit Scotland.

5. Find a guitar that Segovia himself had played, and play it.

I can't think of anything else right now.

1. Convince the bureaucrats at the University of Maine to hire me to preserve the deteriorating radio transcriptions buried in their Special Collections department, before they turn into a pile of chalky white dust.

2. Act as a historical consultant on the movie script a friend of mine has been trying for years to peddle.

3. Write another book, so I can deduct the cost of all the research material I didn't end up using for the first one.

4. Go to Europe. Hey, I know it isn't novel, but nobody in my family's ever been overseas. My mother thinks it's a big deal to go to New Hampshire.

5. Have another pastrami sandwich at the Carnegie Deli. The first one was ten years ago, and I can still taste it.

6. Learn to play the ukulele, so I can be popular at parties.

7. Fly somewhere first class, so I can see what really goes on in that part of the plane.

8. Finish going thru all that junk in the garage.

9. Have a job with health insurance.

10. Finally figure out exactly what I want to do with my life. It's gettin' late.
