I continued researching the Bay River brand, and made a small list of models that I found, in different versions. See the second photo, there are the most interesting models.

And this is a “Bay River” jacket that I happened to find, as you can see, it is identical to the Cody Rancher, so the conclusion is obvious, they are made in the same factory. As you can see on the tag, the Bay River brand was located in San Jose, California. Also an interesting detail, the jacket is made to order from an old saddle maker “McLelland” View attachment 576569 View attachment 576570 View attachment 576571 View attachment 576572 View attachment 576573

Honestly, I didn't think that I would be able to find a new brand from the "rancher" family, but I happened to see this vest, and I noticed the square pockets, although they have a single seam
IMG_9512.jpeg

But further searches turned out to be successful, these jackets also have a double seam, the construction is identical, only the shape of the collar is different.
Also find 1963 catalog, and here I see a female model for the first time!

Also this model without fleece(I think)in 1960 catalog

This jacket in tan have different collar (sorry, can’t find in better quality), and one 70s? woman variant worse materials are visible, and a change in design, very bad looking

I found some info on Jo-o-Kay on a blog post….

‘From a site on Oklahoma history, I found out that Jo-o-Kay is a trademarked name that isn't in the trademark archives.

But it stands for John and Kay (Katherine) Simpler, of Ardmore, Oklahoma. Actually they weren't technically of Ardmore, they were of somewhere else, but they moved to Ardmore in the 1950s, after the owner of the Western Supply Company encouraged them to. ‘

And here's an excerpt straight from "The Year of the Campus Cowboy" in a 1964 Sports Illustrated:
Rough-out leather jackets, cut, stitched and snapped like a wrangler's denim model, are hotly popular in the West and are now turning up in the East as well. One firm, Jo-O-Kay of Ardmore, Okla., has sold 100,000 of them this year in 42 different models. They are made of brushed cowhide, lined in warm Orion fleece. Mike Irving and Justine Purdy wear rough-outs over snug-fitting cowboy shirts in Ivy Leaguestripes.

At some point, the Tandy Company bought Corral Sportswear, which carried — or oversaw some aspect of (and this is where the research gets spotty) Jo-o-Kay. At some point Jo-O-Kay began making coats and jackets for Corral.
