Let me add to this by saying ,it also helps by placing a backpack on the floor and the hat on top of the backpack and then use the wheelchair technique. -

lol perhaps he did need a verbal lesson.......... He is a strange bird and i have been there several times. We conversed better when the subjects did not include the hats. Medication may be the problem. He is ok to talk to at times- not about the hats though. -
