    Safari Express rifle pic thread

Yes, they do. Over and under shotguns, and rifles, as well. Like most things russian, they are a bit rough but they just seem to work. I have heard from other Baikal owners that the over/under rifles (based on their o/u shot guns) are much more refined than the sxs rifles. Oh, and did I mention...

    Classic Safari vehicles!

This was my daily driver when I lived in Bahrain. Ex-Bahraini Defense Force Land Rover series III troop carrier. When I bought it, it had been sprayed white. I bought a small tub of flat black paint, a 1 inch brush and a old copy of Nat Geographic with pics of zebras in and 2 hours later...

    Classic Safari vehicles!

Here is mine. Been to Africa with it and am going again in March. Been known to find the odd Series Landy stuck up under the wheel wells...;-)

    Safari Express rifle pic thread

Here is my plains game gun for Africa and just about anything in N. America Baikal .30-06 double rifle. Rough, bit crude but I can sail them into a 4" circle at 100m with iron sights freehand. Saving up for a Sabatti .375 flanged double. Going to Zim in 2012. Have an appointement with...

    Jodhpurs / Breeches

The tight modern breeches only look good on Zara Phillips and Nicole Kidman. Everybody else looks, uh, well, rather, ummm....plump. :o They would make me look downright obese. I wear mine from WPG and tall Patton style boots to work with tweed jacket. Very comfortable and stylish.

Fountain Pens: Who uses them, and why?

When I moved my family from the US to the UK and enrolled my boys in the local school the had to have fountain pens for school. They moaned at first but it did improve thier writing dramatically. I have one I use at my home desk. I do not keep one at work as it would probably accidentaly...

    What gives you "SWAGGER"?

Lots of swagger there! Thanks for the link. Bye the way, what is the one-winged badge above the name tag?? Kindest regards,

    What gives you "SWAGGER"?

Well, close but not quite. Miniature medals look like exactly like the full size ones but are about one quarter the size. Much better for formal occasions. We wear the ribbons on normal service dress uniforms. Full size medals for ultra formal (funerals, Rememberance Day, weddings, etc) and...

    Smoking Jackets

I had one from Hong Kong in green silk that I bought while on a WESTPAC cruise in the Navy. Had it for years and used it as it was meant. My (now long ago ex-) wife and I threw formal dinner parties for 12 and us gents would retire to smoke cubans (there a some benefits of sailing the high...

    What gives you "SWAGGER"?

Mess dress blues with Parajumper wings, miniature medals, gold strips from left shoulder to my wrist, proper black tie. The Chief, USN(Ret) It's not just a job, it really, really is an adventure!

Well spotted! Thank you, sir. I am with the US Forces here in the UK (for ten years now; have been accused of "going native"!) and have a US Post Box right here on base. So, one pair of cool trousers are on the way! Kindest regards,

Mogambo Just showed it to my wife. Told her it was one of my favourite movies as a kid. Okay, so I realise now that it's a pretty silly film BUT, great stuff in it. Love the Power Wagon safari truck and the Series 1 Land Rover. Oh, and Ava Gardner's....uh....assets ;-) More importantly, where...

    The Adventurer's Gear Thread

Great adventure! There is a trick to learning to drive on looooong desert pistes that are corrogated into "whoops". You either go slow, as you did, and go up and down the bumps or, for the more brave (and longer wheelbased) you find the speed at which your tires just skim the top of the bumps...

Soviet Treasures found in British Shipwreck

    A. Looking for lost things is an addiction. B. When you find it, you get into the history books. And, C. more importantly, even a small percentage of astronomical sum is still A LOT!:D

    Show us your Guns!

The shotgun is beautiful but the double rifle is stunning. I'm working up the cash to build a 45-70 double rifle for smacking Cape Buffalo. I'd really love a H&H Nitro Express rifle but all of my rich relatives are still very much alive...

    Male Identification in Film

Denys Finch-Hatten from Out of Africa. He is his own man, quick with kind word and a gun, knows when the politics are bunch of BS but does his part anyway, because its the right thing to do. Won't shoot a lioness just because a baroness is scared but will double tap a charging lion with a...

    Hair cuts

I flew from London to Washington DC yesterday for a two day conference and wanted a haircut. I asked at the hotel if they new where a "proper barbershop" was located. They pointed to the mall across the street and said there was one in there. So, I go across the road, walk down the mall and sure...

    Do you eat vintage?

I bought my first house in Norfolk, VA in 1995. The house was built in 1951 and was one of those that were built for the returning GI's; two bedrooms, one bath, upstairs attic, big back yard, small porch. WHen I bought it, it came with the original gas stove! It was a huge Tappan number with big...
