Another vintage barnstormer in, this time a 1930s H&L Block, again in chrome-tanned horsehide. This one and my unbranded one both feel and smell very similar; the only modern horsehide I’ve come across that smells like this was my old Lost Worlds Ryder, but these vintage ones are a bit lighter...
Pretty much any specialist denim repair shop like Denim Therapy will charge less than that, never mind your local tailor (though they likely can’t do chain stitched hems). As nice as the Unsung guys seem, their boot repair prices are pretty high too, but that seems to be the general trend.
Just sent one of my vintage barnstormers for repairs to Dena, main thing was replacing the mouton collar and trying to fix loose lining behind the button holes. After remaining me saying she’d start on it soon she promptly mailed it back with a note saying sorry, I couldn’t help. Personal...

I might look into having them made in Japan, I know Adjustable Costume has done cord end ones before, I have a pair of the non-elastic ones that look nice but aren’t very practical. If I do make them I might write an article on them; who knows, maybe I’ll write one anyway.
Speaking of which...
