Just got a 10x Thoroughbred western hat on eBay. I'm a city slicker, and I never heard of this brand before, but sometimes a western hat gets my attention. Figured it was worth the $85 BIN price. I guess from the style it is 1950s or earlier.
I believe ill fitting clothing-- in general-- is a trend pushed by the mass market garment industry. A trim, tailored look limits customers to a certain range of body types and makes the production of clothing much more complicated. I see it everywhere, big baseball hats, puffy sneakers...
New Stetsons are always a gamble, and I don't like the odds. I've returned, sold or given away every one I've had. Love vintage Stetsons, new ones don't compare.
Nice one. Trouser waist measurement, that's taken at the very top opening, right? Does it widen any a little further down, e.g. where a modern trouser waist would be? Thanks!
Puppies, what ya gonna do? Sad end to a nice hat, but at least you can be assured its not a case of eBay seller's remorse (where the seller decides it sold too cheap and makes up a story about a lost item, or worse, never sends it and waits for you to initiate a refund).
I'd recommend a Akubra, wear it a while, see how you like it. If you commission a custom hat later, you'll have a better idea what options to order from your hat maker. I wouldn't recommend a new made Stetson, and definitely not mail order. My experience was poor. I like my Akrubra...
I realize this is an old thread, but could be helpful to revive it. Been searching for similar. Want a compact way to store and display. I'm more a collector than a daily wearer. I think these cubbies will work pretty well, but the dimensions aren't exactly optimal for me...
PS I think I found what I need, but I'd need to buy at least two, just to show off my faves. Also the cubbies seem a little too big for one tie, too small for two. I'm gonna keep looking a bit more. Any ideas...
Anybody have any clever ways to store/display a tie collection in a compact way? I store mine rolled, and I'm looking for a wall hanging cubby type box, like the kind used to display shot glasses or store signal flags on a boat. The compartments need to be about 3" square or a little bit...
Got home from work, parcel was waiting for me. Tore it open, could not wait to put it on and hey it fits! More or less. I was right about the chest measurements, its about a 36-38. I'm pretty sure its pre-war, very high quality, very heavy materials, buttons appear to be bakelite or...
Yup, paid to write articles on subjects he obviously knows nothing about. It might have been interesting if he'd familiarized himself with the subject, worn a fedora in the manner a fedora is meant to be worn and reported on his experience, as we do. But that would take time and effort, and...
Rainy day earlier this week, wore my vintage Sears Pilgrim, nice classic fedora but not one of my best, got more compliments and smiles from strangers than usual. I think the rain makes people appreciate the value of a good wide brimmed hat. That's been the norm wherever I go. Then I see...
Thanks! I was hoping its 1930s, but keeping my expectations low. I will post some pics after it gets here, might be interesting to study the details for more clues.
Hi just got this suit on eBay. I know I shouldn't throw money around like this but I really wanted it for the old school trousers, which are button fly and appear to have had suspender buttons. They appear to be vintage. But the wide jacket lapel looks 1970s, anyone able to put a more...
I started out making 1/35 scale military models & dioramas. Then I developed an interest in 1930s NYC, so I went to 1/87 scale, mostly scratch building things, due to lack of suitable kits. I make extensive use of a laser cutter. Here is a link to some of my work...
