Softening an Akubra Federation IV
My approach to my Akubras has been less subtle. I fill the sink with tap water and dunk 'em. After a thorough soaking I pull the hat, dry it off slightly with a towel and then work the felt. Finally, I shape and set to dry. Note- I have a long oval head, so I also use the soaking to reshape... -

A friend of mine got this at an estate sale. He didn't know if it had much value. I don't either. As you can see it is beat to, um... heck. It is old, though, and kind of cool. I would say it dates to between 1900 and 1920. Don't know if it's wearable, but the inner circumference is about 21...- Ande1964
