TPD,
Nice 15, I saw that listing looked good. Looks to me like mid to late 60's from liner and sweatband imprints, would have been $15 model "15" and yes equivalent to 3X Beaver consistant with all from that era that I've seen. Good snag!
Annixter, fine looking Homburg! I just got my first Resistol western old enough to have the triangular O in the logo. Dinerman, can you help us with dating these? My best guess late 1940's - early 1950's:
Resistol Raw Hide Felts 5X Beaver, crown 6" open, brim 3 3/8" ribbon bound, three row 3/8"...
Hi, guys, I've been away from the screen for a week and see so many great hats lately. Alan and Rabbit and everyone's looking so fine!
My latest arrival and oldest Resistol western yet, 1940's-50's(?) 5X Beaver, more in Resistol Roundup.
Cheers from K.C.!
Good points all around. Stetson made dress and western hats since the late 1800's and by the late 1930's when Resistol began, Stetson had been the leading American hatmaker for 50 years. The heyday of the fedora 1920's - 1950's saw all major hatmakers flourish and then poof - disappear during...
Gentlemen, outstanding crop of hats all! Alan you and Seabass have a beautiful set of twins there, plus wonderful shots of the old top hats and 1800's balloon!
We finally got much needed rain and cooler temps after two month draught. Off to dinner in almond Open Road 4X, Cheers from KC!
Thunderball, super fine looking fedora there, what a gorgeous bow and way cool liner! Mssrs. Fawcett and Moore are true artists.
Here is my latest restoration project:
1950's(?) Royal Stetson fedora, crown 5 1/2" open, 2" bound brim, 1 5/8" grosgrain ribbon. Arrived with tons of character...
Dinerman, excellent Resistol lineup! Great to see those liners and sweatbands.
Here is my latest addition: Resistol 20X Beaver western hat 1970's(?) color natural, crown 6 1/2" open, brim 3 3/8", stock tag handwritten R56621 / 7 1/4" where model and size are usually typed. Arrived with heavily...
A'n'A, very sharp milan!
Alan, super homburg! 20's! awesome!
My latest submittal: Resistol 20X Beaver 1970's(?) arrived heavily soiled but responded well to cleansing and reshaping.

Just received this Resistol 20X (1970 - 80's?), arrived with heavily soiled crown with cattleman's crease, otherwise felt perfect, nice light natural color with lots of tiny dark flecks. Quick soak under the shower head a la Roy R. - no garden hose this time, Randooch - light scrubbing and good...
Without a badge or insignia it is just a campaign style hat. Wear it and enjoy it, like smokey the bear and countless scoutmasters. Military coats without currently active insignia are just fine to wear. Vintage uniforms are fine to wear as costumes as long as you do not falsely represent...
For Sale: Stetson Open Road early 1960's Silver Belly 3X Beaver size 7 Long Oval.
Excellent near mint condition, no moth bites, all felt near perfect. Brown leather sweatband excellent, white satin liner with embroidered picture under clear plastic cover very good to excellent. Includes...
Dinerman, great explanation of the X factor, and how relativity from different eras is so important. As general reference, Resistol was founded by Byer & Rolnick in 1927 and moved from Dallas to Garland in 1938 with the Kitten Finish process already well noted. In the mid 1930's Stetson was the...
Ormazed, my KF fedoras from the mid '50's to mid '60's are stamped with Beaver 3X and 5X under the Kitten Finish logo on the front of the sweatband. Original stock tag on cinder brown 5X c. 1960 has price stamped 20.00. Some earlier fedoras have brown Melorol sweatband with KF logo, but no X...
Tom and Manfred, thank you, I just really enjoy wetting down those cattleman's creases and bashing them into a teardrop.
Doug, I'm sure Paris will really crisp up the Dalworth, be sure to post a photo of the new blocking.
Cheers! KC
Ditto what Dinerman said, light color silverbelly or tan are coolest to work in and no bleed problems. If you get a San Antonio (Open Road style) you'll have a fine dress hat as well as a fine cowboy hat. In a full size western hat if you watch carefully you can find a 20X worth hundreds for...
Arrived today this "beater" Stetson Open Road 4X. "Stetson" pin on ribbon bow and diamond-pattern white satin liner (1970's?). A few tiny moth bites and well smudged, stained, and soiled, otherwise felt has very nice texture, firm yet supple, fine suede-like finish. Sweatband excellent, liner...
