Given the crown shape, brim curl, ribbon, and especially the very distinctive nap, I would say this could very well be a 60s-70s era Lock Co. bowler hat, or was produced by the same factory they got theirs from.
I'm clearing out some of my collection. Message me if you're interested in a vintage 80s Lock Co. Bowler, fits size 7 5/8. Also selling my 2012 Brown Lock Co. bowler, 7 5/8 (7 1/2 UK).
I have a 7 5/8 Christys taller melusine top hat (polished) i'm thinking about selling too, PM if interested...
early 20th century Dunn Co. Top Hat (with original Dunn Co. carrying case)
Hey gents, this got delivered yesterday. Incredible condition, came with a very well-preserved suitcase-style carrying case and two pairs of spats from 100ish years ago, one totally unused and still threaded together...
Among black silk plush top hats, price is determined by size > condition/style > brand (in that order of importance). If the size is large, $300 might still be high because the condition is crappy (the edge is worn). However, if it's 7 1/2 or larger, $300 might be a steal as you could get it...
Denton is correct. Sizes 6 3/4 through 7 1/4 are cheap because they are fairly common. Demand for larger-size (7 3/8 - 7 7/8) vintage bowlers is higher as they are rare. Not as rare as large top hats, but still scarce. Therefore I usually am willing to go up to $125-150. If I don't like it I can...
Hello all, unfortunately I sold this item elsewhere almost immediately after I put this up (this was my discount price for loungers and I got the higher price), but I have not been able to reach a computer and take down the ad in the interim. If this sale falls through, I will be sure to message...
For sale: mint condition Knox silk plush top hat. Absolutely beautiful hat. It is a size 7 3/4, which you may be aware are rare as hen's teeth and in high demand for today's large-headed man. Great for the Royal Ascot. The price is $900 for the complete set, including box and polisher. All...
That's a damn shame. You may be able to salvage it, but you'd need to send it to an English Hatter like Lock & Co or Patey for a full restoration. They can fix the cracks and etc, but it may be very expensive to do so. I don't know of any American companies that are qualified to fix it, and I...
This ribbon is in 100% perfect condition. If you have it replaced you'd be ruining a vintage classic.
Edit: if you don't like it for purely stylistic reasons, at least keep in mind that by replacing the ribbon, you'd be ruining the *resale* value of the hat, which - depending on the size - can...
Most of you are older and don't follow internet trends. For some context, here's an article helps explain the online fedora backlash: http://boingboing.net/2012/10/02/why-the-fedora-grosses-out-gee.html
Hi bowlerman, i'm not as well versed in American hats as Brad, but there are a number of reasons to think this is late 19th century French, not a Dobbs.
First, the hat itself almost certainly dates from the 19th century. The green colored underbrim merino lasted through the 1910s but I've...
