Unfortunately I was too stingy in bidding for this great Cavanagh Caribe Cocoanut (the double name/imprint somehow confused me, thought that were two different hat models according to an old brochure). But who cares, that one is very stylish and appears to be in fine condition too...
Darn cool hat! Great what you made of it, I mean what the pros apparently call the "crown" here ;)
Fine overall style, by the way. Hat is in good hands, it appears. And I too would definately let the rooster where it is!
****so the next trip and will let you know when so maybe we can get together and drink a few beers****
That would be great! Just let me know.
****So how many yearly holidays are legally observed in Germany now?****
Yes, it's around 30 days, depending on the age. Young beginners only get...
Hiya Doc,
no, unfortunately I haven't yet. I guess you mean Bad Homburg near Frankfurt am Main? It is a strongly hat-connected town of course, since the "Homburg" hat originated here. Chancellor Konrad Adenauer was famous for wearing it. In vernacular it's even known as the "Adenauer hat"...
Doc: If Winchester gallon is meant, that's just as much as we pay ALREADY here! If people wouldn't love their Audis and BMWs that much, we would have had to close down Autobahn a long time ago, lol. A popular quote around here is "Rasen f?ºr die Rente" ("Racing for our pensions") because we are...
Doc: These are the first warm words I heard in an US forum about our "krauty semi-socialism" (quote by an American with whom I once discussed that topic) lol
:D
I did last night! I know it sounds kinda silly (and, in a way, even worries me :p) but that dream put me back to the 1950's. The city was probably NY, at least somewhere in the USA. People in stylish suits and hats were around me, classic cars passed by, it all seemed so real...!
Then, of...
Vo vo de oh doe!
I just became aware of that project when the link appeared above the forum logo! As soon as it's possible, I'll order the magazine. If the whole thing looks as classy as the cover, it'll absolutely be MY KIND OF MAGAZINE.
Sinatra, Crosby, Martin: "You've either got or...
Oh, I stand corrected... though I couldn't find that tag in mine.
Yeah it is - way too small! (Thanks :D)
Odd that this model is so rare. Lately I also saw someone wearing a dark Milano hat with a stylish patterned band in a 1957 movie.
Charlie
Do you mean the buyer backs down or the seller bought it himself? ;)
It's a nice one with a nice band (though the shape is different from the Milano), but I too never would pay that much for it.
I like the "Dorsey Jay" (posted above) more. Too bad I didn't see it... Rick, do you remember...
Scotrace:
Funny, I bought the same Cavanagh straw hat a few weeks ago in Ebay. Its shape isn't exactly a "Milano" and it was manufactured in the mid-60's. But a nice hat too. Unfortunately I looked in the wrong size table (British instead of US) and so it turned out it's too small for me...
I read quite a bit here about the famous "Cavanagh edge", but still I don't know what is it exactly. Sorry for my ignorance, but could anyone explain?
Andreas
Hi,
does anyone of you own a 50's Cavanagh Milano hat (or similar models like Leghorn, Cavair etc.)? Don't worry, I don't want to snatch it away ;) , I'm just interested since this model seems to be very rare. Up to now I couldn't find it in Ebay.
However, a CLASSY lid...

P.S.: This Martini pic of yours is great. Did you make it yourself? (Do you photograph?)
Or do you at least like Martinis? :D
Kind regards,
Andreas
Hi SinatraStlye,
currently I'm only a member of the Deutsche Sinatra Society e.V. (German Sinatra Society). The "German" in the name stands for the language,we include Switzerland and Austria too. I'm also in the "managing committee" there (may sound pompous, in fact I only put our magazine...
