This is a photo taken of Millvina Dean (seated left) with her mom Ettie and her brother Bertram (seated right), on Ettie's 90th Birthday in 1969. Millvina Dean would have been 57 when this photo was taken.
Was the liner glued in? (Look under the sweatband. If there is no stitching, it probably was. But, it may have been set-in [unattached] initially.) The glue may have let go. Shape the hat and set it upside down (on the crown). Then shape the liner as best you can. See if this solves the problem...
Since the hat is floppy, try shaping it so it falls a bit to one or both sides. Your wife might like that look better. Take a look at some of the Cap threads in the Hats forum.
