I did my own hack job at home. Why pay someone else to do a hack job, when you can do it yourself?
What I could have done, if I had all of the training, experience, and professional equipment:
I understand the costs of materials, labor, shop supplies, overhead, etc. For a boot like this to get a proper recraft, you may be better off buying a new pair.
Or some local guy could do it. Some cobblers could cut off most of the sole, sand it down close to the midsole, and glue on a new wedge sole. Obviously it will not be as nice as a full recraft with new cork, a new welt, a new midsole, etc. But you will get a new wedge sole, which will last...
As with a lot of boys who grew up during a certain time period in The USA, I carried a Swiss Army knife. A status symbol. In those days, the poor kids had some knock-off. The kids whose parents had good jobs got Wenger and Victorinox. The more money your family had, the bigger the knife...
Budweiser. In a can. That's how we celebrate American holidays. With cheap beer. The store puts it on sale. Then they also give you a rebate. The price is $4.99 for 30 beers. $0.16 a can.
BBQ
Since humans discovered fire, humans have cooked meat over fire. Barbeque, is nothing new. Nor unique to any culture. The USA is most likely the birthplace of the modern backyard cookout.
In The USA, we can legitimately lay claim to the modern kettle grill, Weber being the most...
So here is what I have learned.
I do not have any way of stitching. My Singer sewing machine is not able to repair shoes. The best that I could do, if I need to attach a leather midsole to the welt, would be to do it by hand. Not impossible. An awl, or even a very small drill bit could...
While looking around on Amazon, I noticed that the sheets of rubber were also available from "not a brand name" sellers. Since I had some old boots that I wouldn't cry over, I bought the lowest priced rubber sheet.
Again, not a professional job. DIY with minimal hand tools, no training or...
Now I get it. My head was spinning with the idea of doing it myself in my living room. But you went somewhere with the right equipment and a teacher. Now it all makes sense. I thought that you did it at home.
Poor people eat things that rich people do not eat. Chicken liver is common amongst the downtrodden.
The liver gets stir fried with garlic.
Add tomato.
Finish with bean sprouts and cilantro.
IF I had a shop and supplies, this would go a lot faster. But I'm just doing it in my living room. As time permits. And slowly ordering supplies as needed. No retailers sell shoe making supplies. Shoe repair guys aren't giving you great deals on over-counter-pricing on parts, as they want...
Poor people. We're not that much different. We get weird parts of the animal. Usually the least expensive cuts. The cooking technique is the same. Cast iron skillet, open flame, a wok...... high heat, quick sear. Sauces, flavors........ with whatever vegetable happens to be convenient...
I make the aioli.
The local grocery store has it's own bakery, and I can buy fresh bread, along with fresh lettuce, tomato, and avocado.
But this grocery store does not have a good butcher shop. I have to drive to another store to get the meat. Skirt steak. One of the most tender parts of...
