    Colour vs heat

A black object absorbs more incident radiation than a white object. Whether this translates to an open weave hat being warmer, I’m not sure. I'm not following why this is “counterintuitive”.

You know you are getting old when:

Perhaps you shouldn’t wish something on others that you weren’t willing to do yourself.
  4. Who?

You know you are getting old when:

Join the Army, and go Infantry, or better yet become a Jarhead. That will get it out of your system early in life, so you can move on.

How do folks react to your hat wearing?

Those who ridicule hat-wearers simply expose their own ignorance for all to see.

    Your Most Disturbing Realizations

I am old enough to understand why elderly couples often follow one another rather quickly.

Thank you. Off to count on my fingers for a minute or two. Results: For the three-holer Cattleman a total of 75.4 square mm of ventilation. For The two-holer Territory a total of 113 square mm of ventilation Conclusion: The Territory has more total ventilation and should therefore be the...

Akubra Territory - any thoughts on it?

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

I guess the days of “If you are going to do it ….. do it right.” are long dead. Unless, of course, one is a pedant.

Akubra Territory - any thoughts on it?

No thanks. I spent a week or so in Sierra Vista, AZ when my then Son-in-law was stationed there. Too hot for me.

What is the internal diameter of the grommets in the Akubra Riverina, or any similar Akubra three-holer? (actual size of the vent hole)

Akubra Territory - any thoughts on it?

Thanks. I guess Akubras stop at 4” (102mm) and that’s plenty for my latitude. Yours is still a good-looking hat, but not something I’d wear in summer in black. Wouldn’t want to bake your head.

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

I find the way Hollywood has to change everything in a book, in order to show their “creativity” when they make a movie from it to be extremely annoying. Then they have the nerve to say that the movie is “based on” the book. There have been authors who have asked to have their name removed from...

Akubra Territory - any thoughts on it?

For those who are interested in such minutiae, I have measured the size of the vents in my Territory, by using a drill set as hole gauges. The 1/4” drill was too large, and the 15/64” drill fit easily into each of the four vents. From this I concluded that Akubra is using 6 mm grommets in the...

    Full Hat Collection Photographs Thread

You’d best hurry with the veteran. I was seven years old when WWII started (for the US) and there aren’t many guys left who were old enough at the time to “participate”. There were a few in our cardiac rehab group but I don’t think there are any left now. Korean War veterans maybe? Be quick...

Akubra Territory - any thoughts on it?

I have nothing of real value to contribute here, but I have been wearing my Territory for two months today. By “wearing” I mean having it on my head all day and evening, except when eating meals indoors. This is done in an effort to teach it the shape of my head. It is made of heavy felt, and...
