I had to skip lunch at work today, and happend to just read this now at 4:30 pm or so, and the thought of a fluffernutter or one of those Olneyville hot dogs has got me ready to pass out. Must...have...fooooooood....
It's not particularly innovative or anything, but when my brothers and I were young kids, my grandma used to make us fluffernuttter crackers that we were crazy about.
I've always thought that along with coffee milk, that marshmallow fluff was pretty much a New England thing. Is that the case?
It's more of a tail end of the Golden Era through to the mid 60's sorta thing, but I was just wondering what the good people at the FL thought of Googie architecture. The opinions here are always so well thought out, varied, and interesting, so I figured it might make a good topic of...
I think I dig the smaller 'stache more, but kudos on the handlebar. I think with some folks, it almost looks like that style of mustache is actually wearing them, but you pull it off very well.
My beard grows in pretty fast and where I work doesn't seem to be to particular about any ongoing "facial hair projects" I might be orchestrating, so I tend to change my look around a lot. Before the job I have now, I took 6 months off to work on a writing project and decided I'd really let the...
I wish the seamstress I brought my jacket to was worthy of the plauditz you gave to Berry Fit. Now I gotta figure out if I'm gonna try selling my jacket that I'm not-so-happy with anymore on ebay at a loss and find another jacket I like, or see if I can find some bigger patches that'll cover...
I dropped off my Legendary USA Trojan Horse jacket at a local seamstress's to have the interior chest pocket repaired and to have some patches sewn on while it was there, shortly before Christmas. She said the pocket might be tricky, but the patches would be a piece of cake.
I picked it up 3...
I work at a museum dedicated to American Illustration (www.americanillustration.org) from that era. I'm surrounded by a variety of illustration art all day, but I've never seen anything quite like Arthur Radebaugh's work. After looking over that site, I'm really impressed.:eusa_clap I'm going...
After reading so many introductions written articulately and with panache in this thread, my own "introduction" I fear will come off as boring and plain. Then again, toast isn't exactly exciting either, and that's been a breakfast staple for years. :p
I grew up in RI and have basically lived...
I just finished reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy in one sitting. It was sad, uplifting, a page turner, and thought provoking all at the same time. I highly recommend it.
I'm the "Art Administrator" and head of security at an illustration museum that only has one other office employee besides myself. So basically I do half of everything. Book keeping, graphic design stuff, PR, correspondence, tours, security, etc. Heck, I even end up doing groundskeeping every...
The museum I work at has a painting that Norman Rockwell did for the Saturday Evening Post.
http://www.americanillustration.org/html/nr/001.html
During the tours we have, its used as a classic example of Rockwell's ability to "get the point across" in one image. However, with school...
For me, it was my grandpa. He was a bald headed 2nd generation Irish American who always used to wear hats to keep his head from burning. I always thought he and his hats were pretty cool. Once I got to the age where I felt like I could wear a hat like that without looking like some kid who...
With most of the jackets I've owned, I've gotten into the (bad?) habit of always putting my hands in my pockets. If historical accuracy with the pockets isn't a concern for you, and having them put in isn't going to break the bank, I'd say "why not?".
With the Legendary USA Trojan Horse...
