Footwear to go with our jackets

Oddly enough, being from Montana, I grew up wearing traditional western boots. It's been an adjustment to move to the lower-heeled Ropers. I've got three pairs now and yes, the zips are really nice at the end of the day!

    MA-1 Flight jacket

And I want to clarify my stance (as if it matters) on buying from China/India/Vietnam, etc. I have no qualms buying quality items made anywhere. However, my first choice, assuming equal or better quality, is to help keep Americans employed. I'm not ashamed to say it or believe in it. I would...

Footwear to go with our jackets

So I continue to acknowledge that the forum isn't as western boot centric as me, but I just got a killer pair of custom, handmade Lucchese Ropers that I LOVE! Yeah, they cost about what a new jacket does, but out here, footwear is more usable than most leather jackets...so the collection grows.

    Aero Shackleton Explored

Cheers, @Boyo!! That answers it. And I am kinda leaning towards the leather backing as well! Forgot I have a Patagonia down vest. Measured it at <25" p 2 p. That Shack on Aero might work!

    MA-1 Flight jacket

BTW, the DD and BR jackets are really in the same price range. At least when DD was giving a sale price to start the line. Haven't seen him around, so I don't know what's up there. But yes, you can get someone here to buy/send to you...

Vicenza leather in new Aero is inconsistent

I know how to get my red jacket. But my $500 jacket will be $1000+ by the time it's here and on me ;)

Vicenza leather in new Aero is inconsistent

Thanks @HPA Rep ! That covers it nicely. My heart sank a little when I saw your post. Somehow, I think in my mind I'll end up with one, but unless you can convince me that the XXL is going to possibly fit my 47/48 top, I'm likely not going to tee off the wife just yet...

    MA-1 Flight jacket

That's the one! It's lovely, and a wife-approved color. Although I'm still not over Lockheed Red :)

    Aero Shackleton Explored

So, @SpeedRcrX and other Shack owners. How does vest sizing work? The 48 on Aero's site (thanks, @Boyo) says Pit to Pit of 24"?

    Aero Shackleton Explored

Thats impressive as hell, @SpeedRcrX - not so much the lovely Shackleton, but the work you did to get lookin' so good! Congrats on both counts...

    MA-1 Flight jacket

It's a PITA for big guys. Japan doesn't make 'em big, and the ones here are top-dollar. Most options are cheaper jackets. That and some better older ones I've found on ebay... China seems to be making some headway, and some I've seen look pretty good. My neighbor does a lot of custom business...

Vicenza leather in new Aero is inconsistent

@HPA Rep - interesting. Question then. The Red Lockheed MA-1 we discussed at length. It has the below tag, but I thought this was an accurate repop? Or am I misunderstanding the above? I'm still hurting over the wife saying she hates it...

Ebay USAF jacket repros - new source, any good?

@Edward - I have a couple of those bookmarked, but don't know anything about them. I usually look used as opposed to cheap new stuff, but as you say, for a beater, they may be OK...

I wish I knew more about this maker...looks nice.

How many new jackets do you have coming (and how many potential ones)?

I hear ya. I dropped 10/25 so far in 10 days. On my way back. My yearly pilgrimage...

How many new jackets do you have coming (and how many potential ones)?

Still looks good, Hulk, er, @ton312! Is that a T you're wearing under? Unless it's uncomfortable then keep it!

Most versatile Aero jacket? What do you think?

I'm not keen on the battered Aero hide either. I've seen other "pre-beat" skins, and some are OK, but I would go with a light/medium hide for sure. Shinki or Vincenza would be great. Just my 2¢

Most versatile Aero jacket? What do you think?

By definition, you just described what "versatile" means ;)

    New custom Aero Sheene: Winning!

Totally true. As I often say - even to myself - you can't overthink things too much. That's when we usually ruin a good thing. I have two jackets today that were 2nd handers. Two I've kept amongst all others. Never avoid used/flipped if it looks like the numbers/style match yours!
