I'm an admitted watch geek. We lived for 30 years in an area where new Rolexes were common. I worked and traveled in an industry were vintage Rolexes were more common than new. And I liked spotting nice watches in use.
So first it was always a game for me to spot the fakes. Then it was, is...
I like the older style and simple watches. That is a neat watch. Just don't need them made up as "vintage".
A friend just bought this one. A beautiful watch! But a much better watch I'd suspect than the Seiko based homages I started the thread with.
Please, lets see your Smith's?
As I mentioned previous I seldom wear a watch these days. But now over a week with the Homage. My wife borrowed it half way through that time. I've been wearing my 1980s Sub. Sub still keeps almost prefect time. Her new watch is a few seconds down for the...
Nice watch Mike!
We stacked hay most of the day yesterday. My wife in her "new" MilSub homage and me in some subpar, plastic, gizmo, quartz watch. Really looking forward to getting delivery of my own Homage that won't get pilfered by my local miscreant :)
Fun shopping around for one either...
I thought I had posted this prior but guess not. My tactical Q-Tip. A most impressive folder out of many I have used and carried. A true one hand folder opening with a "flicker" and closing with the push button "dead bolt" lock. And a quick as any auto knife I own while being stronger than...
If you shop right $2K will still get you a Rolex. By any definition they are still superb time pieces. But @ $2K any number of superb watches are easily available.
>I have been working on watches myself. It is truly not that hard.
Nice skill to have! I have seen some well-trained watch...
>When making homages of older watches i think they should look as new.
I get that. Having several older Rolexes with yellowed lume and having had Rolex rebuild them to new. At first, I thought that was pretty cool. Now decades later and the value of the rebuilds less than half of what they...
If anyone had told me I would be impressed by a "fake" watch at any time in the past I would have laughted at them...and maybe been a little insulted :) The "homage" watches aren't intended to decieve you into believing it is a Rolex. These are just a recreation of a good watch for pennies on...
I used to buy the Akubra 2nds and returns cheap @ David Morgan when I lived closer. They were shocked I'd buy some hats just to rip the sweat out and put it in another hat. Never for a Sunbody however. Cheaper to just buy a new Sunbody :) These days I have a box of nice new leather sweats...
I have not. But I have put them in a hat stretcher many times when soaked. Easy to get a couple of sizes bigger and not hurt the hat using a decent hat stretcher.
Been awhile since I have worn a 5513. I had forgotten just how easy they are to wear.
Outstanding value IMO.

>If the 7X CBs mold like clay, this 5X CB is thinner, finer, and molds like butter.
Interesting comparison. I built a number of hats from Winchester's 100 beaver. Not all the 100% felts are the same by any means. And I am probably wrong as it has been a year or two since I did the last one...
>In the earlier photo, the men wore their hats pushed up high on their foreheads or even higher and above their hairline
They did that for the photos. Getting a photo taken was a BIG deal back in the day. Everyone wanted to be seen, not look like some yokel with their face hidden. No one...
>Then I went to beaver Stetson resistol and kept trying to get to the higher end stuff. Never got over 200x. The cowboy wearers have no knowledge or understanding of what a good hat is.
 Oh, My :D
Interesting conversation. I think Brett sums up most of it. He and I disagree on...
1882 on the XIT in Texas. Something for everyone in this photo. But few, Stetson, short brimmed, Boss of the Plains. Makes me rethink that idea all together,
Stetson's Boss of the Plains (and a 3 or 3.5" brim) always gets a lot of credit for actual pre 1890's vintage cowboy hats. Not often you see so many big brimmed hats in an old photo. Many of the hats in the photo look like they could 4" and up to me.
SAMMI spec for 45 ACP +P is set at 23,000 psi.
45SMC is 32K psi. You'll need rifle primers and a fully supported chamber for those. Good read here:

Good luck with your project.
