Live Another Day!
I am becoming less agnostic! The brim is now hard again, and has taken the proper 'curl'. I do not want to do this again anytime soon, although now I have a lifetime supply of denatured alchohol and so could.
Thank you, Brad Bowers!
Mr. Lucky
I just finished following Brad Bower's advice with the denatured alchohol (why so expensive? $9 a bottle?) and steam to fix the vintage Christy's of London topper. I was as nervous as a plastic surgeon working on a mob boss's girlfriend.
I had to use a lot of alchohol (on the hat)...
Torpedo's away!
Torpedo: I have to give you envious props. You look perfectly natural and great in your vintage clothes and those great straw hats. Some people have an advantage that their appearance lends itself to certain clothing styles. This is a good example. You are obviously very...
Watch the watch
Not to detour the thread but it is lamentable that the current generation disdain watches entirely, relying instead on their cell phones. What a shame.
Knot always
Interestingly, the tie I provided the link to, has the hook and eye just behind the knot, or rather, at the rear edge of the knot so you cannot see it when worn. I thought that made it a little better than the pre-tied bows disdained here. Notice it being illustrated worn with a...
Yo Ho Ho and a bottle of
Mt Gay, (yes, I am secure enough to drink it). No matter what brand, neat or with water or on the rocks, it tastes like a rubber band. How do I know? I have chewed rubber bands. I seldom do now-I have rum!
The Tie that Binds
I assumed so but thought it was worth a mention. I wear 'real' bowties too but I am a degenerate lowlife and admit I would wear a pretied one, (NOT a "CLIP ON"! even I have standards, just low ones) on occasion, especially with formal wear. It is my own childish rebellion...
Bound and tied
I prefer to tie my own, now that I've bothered to learn how, but if you want a nice 'quick and dirty' tie that matches your description, here's one:

Groom and Clean
I used this stuff years ago. I didn't think it was 'greaseless'. It was OK as a hair dressing but to my mind, no better than Vitalis or Brylcreem
Pocket pool
I wear mine with the fob fastened to a belt loop, just stashed in the right trouser pocket. No one has worn a vest here since the mid-(19)'80's. But, it's Cincinnati. Perhaps they have come and gone many times since. Papers here tell of the demise of flared trousers and bell...
Slippin away...sittin' on a pillow...
I cannot ever imagine myself wearing these things but I salute the bravery of those who do and will. I will check this thread often. You are brave, brave men.
Noir perfection
I can easily appreciate Double Indemnity and many of the early Hitchcock films as contenders.
I think The Third Man stands up so well to repeated viewing, even for 10-15 minute 'installments' is the attraction of the music, casting and the dramatically 'noir' time and...
Christie's Topper
Just got the Christy's of London topper bought on ebay from a Canadian seller. Perfect fit for my 7 1/8 head. Beautiful silk plush without blemishes and nice tapererd crown 'waist'. The crown is a nice 6"+ high. The only problem is the brim has gone a bit flat from improper...
