Kitty, that is a hard one. Never seen anything like it, can't say anything definitive without handling it, so I'm gonna take a couple of guesses. The breech block seems to be cammed up and down by the lever on top of it. It seems to be in the up position in the photo.
You will notice there...
Cheers. Frederick Remington called the subjects of his paintings "men with the bark on." That's how I like hats. Toss em in a wild river and pick them up ten miles down stream, beat em with an ugly stick then stretch them back into shape over a bent knee, dry em over a camp fire, wear em ten...
Hey, thanks a lot for that info, not only does it answer the question from a historical point of view, but is great for possible future reference. Why Remington didn't make it originally with a detachable magazine is a mystery to me.
Thanks Goose. Yep, the subjectivity of the x system is why I was querying the one x on this Beaver Hats number, as the felt quality is so high, better than any of my old Stetsons by far, and at least as good if not better than the Borsos I have. Thirty years of wearing and messing with hats...
Cheers.
No usual size tag protruding into the crown, but behind the band is a red and white paper sticker with "7" on it and a "use this number to duplicate" space but no written in number.
Hey, kinda hesitate to post this as I can't do pics, but. I recently bought two hats from a good guy over in classifieds. One was a nice gray Stratoliner, the other is a Beaver Hats bound-edge fedora in brown, well moth bitten, bound edge, 23/4" brim, 51/2" crown, 11/8" band, 17/8" sweat band...
My everyday walking around pen is a LJ in green with a 1554 nib. I really like it, but every now and then, it loses its wee mind and gobs up a really thick line for a few words after being freshly uncapped from my pocket. Any idea why this is and how to fix it?
Ethan, provided the pipe has not had a glopy aromatic smoked a lot in it previously, the lack of a need to bread it in is one of the joys of estates. The other big one is that you can get some really nice pipes that would be prohibitively expensive if bought new. (Given my meager resources.)
Years ago I had a Remy Mod 8 in .35, a really nice piece of work, a testament to Browning's genius. But the mag was not detachable. Did the 81's come with detachable mags from the factory or was that a modification? Seems to me I 'member reading once that the Ranger that shot the hell out of...
I've never before been too bothered about pipe cleaning, aside from occasional reaming of the cake to a reasonable thickness and fairly frequent use of pipe cleaners.
But, I got a little freaked out recently, reading allusions elsewhere to the possibility of contracting tuberculosis from...
