    Hooded driers

one more thing, the bonnet hair dryer is excellent when dying hard to color hair, like greys. Greys need heat in order to absorb color.

    Hooded driers

you would be much better off with a bonnet type hair dryer. I own a lady sunbeam from the 60s and had a hard top type hooded dryer as well. The lady sunbeam gets my hair dry fast, since it completely encapsulates your hair. The problem with the hooded hard top dryer is that it doesn't extend...

Lace it up - The true Corset thread

where you get the fat overhang because the corset back is too short. Problem with the corset is that the fat has to go somewhere, sort of like a tube of toothpaste, and often the back fat is pushed up and over. Sort of unslightly. A lot of antique corsets have extremely high backs to...

Lace it up - The true Corset thread

the best thing any of you ladies who are interested in corsets is to make it yourself. So far, I've made four. These tend to wear out with constant use. However, making one yourself eliminates the dreaded problem of back fat.

    Best beauty decision you've made?

wouldn't doubt your dark circles are caused by a depression in the under eye hollow, which makes them look darker then they are. You may need a more modern solution...such as hyaluronic acid to even out the depression

Going to the doctor in the "Golden Era"?

my grandfather was a practicing physician in los angeles from the early 30s till about '72 when medicaid/medicare came into existence. All I can tell you is that his favorite thing to do was to tell expectant mothers the sex of their child and write something different on the chart. So if they...

    Electric hand mixers?

I wouldn't bother with an egg beater, they don't do anything to really mix the batter. I raked up points from capital one credit card, and then applied the points to purchasing a macy's gift card, which I used to buy a kitchenaid mixer. If you don't want to do that, you can find a kitchenaid...

I would recommend that you purchase the westmore beauty book. This is a reprint from a 50s manual, it talks extensively about makeup application, and using makeup tips to put your face in harmony and balance. Really a fabulous book http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1936049317

    Cooking in the Golden Era

I have one cookbook from the late 30s which collected recipes from around the country and divided it into sections based on different regions (mid west, southwest, south, new england, etc.). I know there was a recipe in there from Virginia (I think) about cooking possum and if I remember...

Old Hollywood Charm School & Voice Lessons?

alright my dear, your voice isn't as bad as you think it is. But yes, I can hear that it is a bit nasally. I would recommend two things, singing lessons, which can teach you proper breathing, and a digital recorder. You can practice smoothing out your voice by reading this way. At least hun...

    Favorite Vintage Perfumes

I use to wear shalimar, then moved on to l'hear bleu, then went on to opium, the chanel 5, love youth dew (but am allergic to the spray) and finally I wear as my every day fragrance l'air du temp, which is a lovely flowery fragrance. It's one of those fragrances that isn't overbearing, but...

In Need of Some Positive Societal Reinforcement...

one thing you have noticed laaaaaddddy is that teenagers are very group oriented. They derive their self esteem by acceptance from their peers. Have you noticed that groups of teenage cliques dress similarly or try to look like one another? This is because humans tend to accept those or be...
