    Tin Pan Alley: Your faves?

I'd probably say Harry Warren, because I love the music from Busby Berkeley musicals. He just squeeks by as my favorite though, because I'm a big fan of Tin Pan Alley songwriters. I'm tempted to give the title to Harold Arlen, if only because It's Only a Paper Moon (the Cliff Edwards version)...

    What Are You Reading

I just finished Nightmare Alley by William Lindsay Gresham (amazing! gripping!), and will probably be heading for a reread of Rider Haggard's King Solomon Mines next since it's part of a final exam I have Saturday. Oooo, I read that last year and really enjoyed it. How do you like it so far?

    What's Your Favorite Joke?

And that guy in the trunk of your car? Jack The man jokes are great. BegintheBeguine's Mayonnaise joke is great too (resisting bad pun....)

    I need some advice...

Like a lot of others have said, living on your own (or with some roommates) is great. I've lived away from home for a couple years now, and as much as I love and get along with my parents, I don't want to go back. Last year one of my roommates was a complete stranger, but I couldn't have asked...

Constance Bennett - Beauty Rituals video

That's great! I can't believe the number of creams she uses either. The waking up with make up reminds me of the beginning of Gold Diggers of 1933 with Ruby Keeler and the others all decked out in makeup before the day's even started.

Yeah, I don't travel with books. The library is my best friend here. Sorry I've driven this thread off topic! Back to the pictures...

    LADIES of the LOUNGE

Well, thanks! I've been doing a lot more mind cultivation than closet/style cultivation since I've been abroad. I figure my brain's likely to last longer than whatever I look like, so I place higher stock in it (it also doesn't have to be packed into a suitcase like my clothes).

    LADIES of the LOUNGE

Sadly, it's a Yevonde photo, and not me! I haven't got my hair to that level of perfection (yet!).

    LADIES of the LOUNGE

Too much skin bared, eh? Novella's guide to covering up and looking mysterious, er, scratch that, goofy, that's more like it: 1. acquire coat with a good collar 2. assume goofy look (slightly mysterious, but mostly goofy) 3. raise collar I couldn't find any good recent...

Learning a New Language Past Age 10

That's very true. I usually did better than the native speakers when it came to spelling and written grammar tests. I was always really, really lost with all the oral dialog/conversation class exercises though. The school really should have put together some kind of written Spanish for...
