My experience with Spanx is the tights that I wear in the winter. I guess if I only wanted a smooth line they would be fine, but usually I want to be cinched in at the waist too, so Spanx aren't enough. They are very light control, anyway.

I'm somewhere between dismissing this outright and embracing it. Why put weird chemicals on your body if you don't have to? But it's unlikely we're all going to die from this stuff. More likely we'll get hit by a bus. ;)
Use setting lotion as well...helps the curls stay in. Pillow rollers are easier to do than pin curls but pin curls are more comfortable to sleep in. Make sure to tie a scarf around the rollers or curls when you sleep.
So, I did this set last night on a whim with damp hair and no setting lotion:
I wrapped a silk scarf around it and slept in it. Then I woke up and took it all out and it looked like this (I know I look crazy, lol please excuse insane look and no makeup):

I have found TONS and TONS of vintage men's short sleeved shirts (including Guayabera shirts) at thrift stores. So many my boyfriend told me to stop bringing them home. Go check your local thrifts!
