That's about right for a Dumont, I found the payment book for the RA-112 I got from my Grandmother. (Dec. '49)
She paid $500.00 for the set, which was a good bit of change for those days.
1940s Still sealed Legendre Herbsaint.
In late 2009 The Sazerac Co. brought back Legendre Herbsaint Original, The return of the old formula, and labeling.
Yes, it tastes like the old stuff. ;)
Pretty much, (Though bigger than 1oz) it wasn't until the modern era, that the inverted road cone sized cocktail glass became the norm.
The bright side is, you can hunt down vintage cocktail glasses, which I find to be more enjoyable to use.
Yes, Herbsaint Original is an absinthe substitute, you would prepare it just like a classic absinthe.
Herbsaint Original is closer to an absinthe, than some commercial absinthe brands. As it was back in the 1930s and 40s
Not that I'd know anything about the stuff....

The two big absinthe forums a couple of posts up are good resources, as well as the posts in this thread for the better brands.
I'd avoid...
I have my Grandmother's Dumont RA-112 that she bought in Dec. 1949. (Still has all of the papers, and the power cord tag)
It's quite interesting with the continuous radio type tuner and green cat's eye on the dial.
I lucked into a full Dumont factory TV shop binder with all their schematics...
Being 6'-2" I wouldn't mind, the closest I ever got to eye level was dating a girl that was 5'-10".
I used to say goodnight to a tiny old flame, by having her stand on the top step so she'd be at the same height.
Yes, you can usually find about about tastings via the two big absinthe forums, Fee Verte & the Wormwood Society.
