    Detachable collar questions

It was intended to be worn with a shirt that matched its pattern and color. No doubt, the shirt and the collar were originally sold together. The name "Town Club" referred either to the shirt brand ... or to the name given to the shape of the collar. (Detachable collars came in many different...

    The Palm Beach suit thread

In response to some questions asked earlier ... No, Palm Beach cloth is no longer used in menswear, and it never was made in Palm Beach. (However, people did wear the warm weather fabric at Palm Beach resorts.) Yes, "Palm Beach" still exists as a menswear brand. (Go figure.) No, it...

My icons for Golden Era men's style are a father-son team: Douglas Fairbanks. Sr. and Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. Here's why ... -- Douglas Fairbanks, Sr. was the first movie superstar to set clothing styles for men. He was ahead of his time: by 1925, he was wearing fashions that...

    Fedora help for the IGNORAMUS

I think my hat looks like it has a taper because I pinched the front of the crown. I just removed the pinch and -- ta da! -- the taper disappeared. The crown looks very square now. The 5 1/4 inch crown is after creasing. Open crown measures a tad over 5 1/2 inches. I'll post a pic...

    Fedora help for the IGNORAMUS

Hi, this is Marc, Veronica's husband. I call myself the hat ignoramus because I really know very little about them. You folks in the Lounge have very kindly helped me with my previous hat questions, and you've inspired me to go out and get fedora'd! And so ... Last week I made my first...

    Who's Homburgs are good?

Still, in my book, homburgs can't make the jump from jaunty to rakish. Fedoras have a monopoly on rakish:
