    "Trying To Be Charlie Sheen"

I was wearing a Panama and a guy said, "Oh, a derby hat! Like Al Capone and the gangsters used to wear..." From there he went on, to Capone's VD!

    Weekly Reader ceasing publication

I remember two articles, circa 1967. One was about a new layout of shopping center called a "mall." The other was about those nuisance birds, the starlings.

What if it had a coupon for a pizza joint on the back of the wrapper? Like the big "fundraising" bars...

    Counting Change

When there's a power outage, just try buying something-- even with cash. I guess that's when we all get to turn to looting?

    Counting Change

There were teen employees (late 1980s!) who, when told to "clean the back area, and if it's not busy at 3:30, go on home" would be punching the blank side of their timecard, to find out the time. This was before cells and full coverage by pagers; the time punch clock had a traditional clock...

Hanging your laundry on a clothesline

Phil Hendrie, in L.A., is on KTLK 1150 starting at 10pm. And he's syndicated. Yes, we know the show is a joke... but we didn't necessarily want everyone else to know that, right away.

Hanging your laundry on a clothesline

Try to catch Phil Hendrie's radio show-- he often talks to an HOA President, Bobbie Dooley (and her husband Steve.) She has rules against just about EVERYTHING-- and bizarre methods of enforcement.

    Bow Ties

Add to "Forsyth of Canada" point-ends at Burlington: Solids-- red, black, purple, and bright orange. Also maroon with fine swirls of orange (that one may get me, or vice-versa.)

    Best suspender-button thread?

Ooops, I wrote "thread" meaning forum thread... but the subject also involves "thread" for sewing... I ordered some colored buttons for outside-mounting, and also some "no-sew" buttons (each attached by a nail)... also known as jeans- or dungaree- buttons. I decided on a favorite pair of...

    How old is your house?

At a "1960s" page (which sometimes features photos which could be slighty outside the decade) someone posted a shot of long-haired hippies and a US flag. With a note, "Definitely not the 1950s." I replied, "You figured that out from the 50-star flag, right?"

    How old is your house?

48 covers Our Era well (1912 to 1959) but the 50 is now the longest-used design. I wonder what percentage of 49-star flags went to Alaska? Not a lot of people need to get a new flag in any given year, in this example July 4 1959 to July 4 1960 when Hawaii was added... but Alaskans would have...

    Retro-extremists? What are we called?

    How old is your house?

A question for those in the U.S.: how many of you fly a flag with fewer than 50 stars? (BTW I'm taking my first look at this thread-- maybe flags were mentioned previously.)

    Bow Ties

First time finding point-end bow ties at any of my favorite budget stores-- "Forsyth" brand at Burlington for $12.99. I held off to see if more patterns turn up-- they had black and wine red, each with a few colored doo dads on them.
