Wow--
I fenced in college--épée--and it was really hard work (and I was very fit!). Haven't thought of taking it up again but I just might given this inspiring post. Spending most of my efforts these days on squash, which has the benefit of being one of those games you never try to win--you...

Bernard Weatherill can even provide that--at the very back of this picture of their current shop in Savile Row is the model horse complete with saddle to use to fit riding clothes for their customers. I think they have a full-sized horse in their window, too.
Hacking jackets are always longer than suit jackets--they literally are styled to look best when the wearer is seated on a horse, as opposed to standing. I am 5"9" and have a modern one from Bernard Weatherill--probably not as flattering but to change it would be to alter the integrity of the...

This one is not vintage but a good example of a new retro style Hamilton. I added the pigskin band. Shown on an unusual pocket square by Hermes.

I spoke too soon. These fine shoes now retail for $700 which is only $23 dollars a year if you have them as long as I do, but that it a lot to spend on a pair of shoes. Tony Blair is a fan, for what that's worth.....
The best wingtips I have ever had--and I've had plenty--are Church's. I still have a pair of Chetwynds that I bought the year I graduated from college (!) that still look great--good shoe care and resoling make them last forever. If you amortize the cost over 30 years, they are a bargain...
I was wearing a Panama fedora once in a Starbucks and the barista said--and she was many years younger than me--"You are really working that hat. I wouldn't mind working that hat with you...." I never thought that hats would provide pick-up lines! As a middle-aged married guy I was flattered...

Here is a great looking wool hat from Orvis for $59--great value for a hat to knock around in. I have a similar one from Orvis in brown with a wider brim that I wear fly fishing and it has been through the ringer--literally--and still looks great. I wouldn't wear a good fur hat out...
One last bastion of old school babrber shops are traditional clubs like Athletic Clubs, University Clubs, venerable institutions like the Union League Club, The Jonathan Club, the Olympic Club, etc. Ony works if you can get into those places, but reassuring to know that they are there.

A few more--a 1940s Rolex Bubble Back Oyster with rose gold bezel, with its original strap from Donovan and Seamans in downtown Los Angeles--they were on the ground floor of the LAAC on 7th Street. Also, an early 1920s Elgin that is a transitional style--it really is a...
Great, classic combination of smells. Whenever I think of Vitalis I think of Holden Caulfield's roommate: "Old Stradlater was putting Vitalis in his hair. MY Vitalis...."
