You're right, they are damn expensive. I know this probably isn't the kind of answer you'd hope for but I think I would find somebody who can knit and have one made up for me. Not only would it be way cheaper it would also be more personal.
I think there's a photo of a Luxire shirt with detachable collars further back in this thread. I believe Luxire will make spare collars for 20 American Dollars. However, I have just had 4 detachable collars made for me by Natty Shirts. I'm very pleased with them and they cost 5 American Dollars...
A Jaeger jacket, Jaeger silk and linen trousers, a natty shirt, a hat from Mexico and a nice cravat from a charity shop.

Yesterday I had a day out to London to listen to The Royal Philharmonic at The Albert Hall and on the way I stopped to look at this magnificent memorial dedicated to all the brave lads who served with Bomber Command.
Off to town so of course seeing as it's the middle of June one has to have a raincoat at the ready. Forgive the slight orange cast to the photo, I definately havent been sunbathing.
The choice is yours of course, I'd never be the sort of person to tell another how to look or what to do (looks nervously over shoulder) but I think you look better clean shaven.
