    I think we owe a lot to the 1930s pioneers who used stop action scale models of monsters and such to make King Kong and many others done in the same way. 20+ years later the same technique was still standard fare in sci-fi film making.

    Not only did Rod Serling write good sci-fi he was able to write good 1/2 hour TV scripts which put the story in perspective.     3 years ago I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. It was detected with a simple blood test. As I learned more about it I found that the cause is unclear. It's not as simple as smoking and lung cancer for example. If men live long enough almost all get some level of prostate cancer, maybe not...

    The AP news we're getting out here mentions that the Japanese military did actually call it Iwo Jima = sulphur island instead of Iwo To which allegedly has the same basic meaning. This is tantamount to English where an island is named Strengthened Island and It became known as Fortified Island...

    Novels and Movies

    Dee Brown's Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee was a superb book and the movie was a complete dud covering so small a portion of the book as to be almost unconnected. A real in-depth cinematic visualization would have to be a 5 part miniseries to do it justice.

    Do You Still Play 78 rpm Records?

    As a kid in the 50s I had a cheezy record player which had a 16 RPM speed but there was never any record I ever had or saw that played at that speed.
