    Sewing Lessons & FAQ

I am in the exact position as you Miss Neecerie. I am the same size and am trying to get back to a 10/12. I have lost 10lbs and 2" so far in my waist. There are so many cute dresses in the 28-30 waist size on ebay it drives me nuts. I am looking for a dress form too, and saw the duck tape info...

Do You Consider Yourself To Be An Artist?

I am an artist. I used to draw, mostly portraits, and even sold several, but not enough to make a living on. Now I use my artistic talents in my doll restoration, and clothing design. I do at at home since I am a SAHM. I also come from an artistic family. My mother went to art school in NYC in...

    Out of the Closet?

This is sadly very true. My 16 yr old step-daughter seems to think this is something I just latched on to and wil quit.lol Since graduating HS I have always toyed with wearing different styles so my family is used to it. There was a time in my late teens when I went 1960's ala Barbara Feldon...

    Show us your vintage patterns!

That is disapointing. Do you think they altered the original from having a waist band to not? I just don't think skirts or trousers look vintage with out one. I just got a nice cotton lawn skirt in the mail from Land's End. I was disapointed that it didn't have a waist band either. So I guess...

The extra time you spend getting ready because you wear vintage.

I may not do full vintage as I haven't the wardrob yet, but I always feel better about myself when I am fixed up. There is nothing that irks me more than seeing people in there PJ's in public. And in the south the even wear fuzzy bedroom slippers out. :rage:

Some antique mall finds and info needed on this box...

Thank you ladies for those hint's. I have tried the rubbing with my finger test and I get a slight odor, but I am not sure what it should smell like having never smelled Bakelite before. In reading on one of those sites it mentioned Bakelite telephones, and this remindes me of older heavy...

Some antique mall finds and info needed on this box...

I went to my favorite antique mall and got this hat for $3, gloves $2.50 a pair, necklace for $1 and this great box for $10. Is is a very heave plastic and is thick and chunky. Does anyone know anything about this type of box? Era, manufacturer? There are no markings on it. I am curious as what...

    *Snoods*

lol I'm almost 34, I used to watch it regularly. I got out of the habit of watching during the second season with Paige. Those episodes sound fun. Don't feel too bad Daisy, I am a Gilmore Girl's fan, and that's a younger age bracket's show too.;) In fact they had an episode with a 1940's...

    *Snoods*

Yes, that is true but it usually is guages finer than a 10 which is what most doilies are made from and they are very fine. These look like they maybe used a sport weight or so. JMO Too heavy yarn is just one of my pet peeves.;)

Those look fabulous LD! I especially love the plaid. I adore plaid coats. And that button looks great on it. If you didn't tell me it wasn't vintage I wouldn't have guessed. :eusa_clap

Those are cute styles, but if you compare the ones they've made to the vintage picture I think they are using a yarn weight that is still a tad too heavy. I have a ton of knit & crochet patterns from the 30's and 40's that belonged to my grandmother. I bet I have a snood pattern among them.

    Cute Vintage-y Shoes

I tried those on in Taget a couple of weeks ago but I couldn't figure out why the front part of the shoe stayed off the floor. Do yours do that? I looked at more then one pair and they were all like that.
