    Demise of the butcher

Matt in So. Cal. you'll need to go to a meat market like my wife does for better meat. It's cut the way you ask for it and since I cook it I've happily found that there is almost no shrinkage or melted fat in the pan if it is fried for example. Fortunately or unfortunately depenting on...

    Life without moderators

After my surprise to find this topic still viable after 4 days I read many comments about expectations of various topics being closed. As I said I feel a site's tone reflects its moderation. Very liberal moderation will allow ongoing bickering amongst patrons at times while conservative...

    Dam busters

Barnes Wallis' ingenious bomb shape and it's development lends to the drama too. As an inventor he simply never gave up. The fact that using spotlights angled to merge at 60 foot altitude beat the low altimeter reading problem was unique. The spinning of the bomb before it was launched so it...

    LIVE FREE, DIE HARD -Spoilers-

Saw this the other day. You're gonna love it or hate it depending on who you are. For most Die Hard fans all that needs to be said is that it is the latest incarnation in the franchise and they'll show up. Like the James Bond series you don't care what the storyline is ahead of time you...

Anyone know who Brenton Frank is?

I don't know but occassionally get a PDF file from someone like that which I found to be some investment mumbo jumbo tips. I trash them all now.[huh]

    Life without moderators

All forums' tones are set by the level of moderation. Some sites find it acceptable to allow 2 members to engage in several pages of arguement even if it is not too mean spirited where I would have said "enough already topic closed, use PMs." Some allow a certain levels of name calling...

    The Real James Bond

As a side note, I believe the latest Bond, Casino Royale is the most accurate in truly depecting the cold emotionless character needed in the espionage game. Agents had no glib jocularities just the steel cold ability to murder effectively:eek: .

    Your TOP Bogart movie..?

Casablanca for all the obvious, usual reasons. How could you compare Hugh Grant and Whoever to Boggie and Bacall with out laughing?

At shot of the XF-11 used in The Aviator. As we can see this is no toy flying model but a large-scale, detailed mini airplane!

    Shooting a pistol

I have a carbine and it is totally shootable with one hand even with the standard stock. The M-16 with pistol grip can be fired similarly but has more recoils to compensate for.

    Can't Wait To Be 50

Yes that's my point exactly- just attaining a certain age is meaningless unless you're in good health. I have to say that once you have a life threatening medical "thingy" you really can't be scared by much and the prospect of dying on an airline flight or water vessel or traffic accident is...

Where would we be without eBay?

Aside from hats or vintage clothing the amount of vintage auto parts that are obtainable on Ebay is overwhelming. Without Ebay car guys would have to write ads in local auto nut publications with limited circulation to buy or sell. That is in effect worthless. Those that are geographically...

    Wool Felt vs. Fur Felt

Some said you can tell wool from fur a mile away and that's just wrong. A hat person might but the average schmoo hasn't got the slightest idea that they use fur in the making of better hats.:eusa_doh:

What did your grandparents pack for personal protection in the Golden Era?

Carebear you say "You don't carry a gun because a place or time is "dangerous". You carry a gun for the same reason you keep a fire extinguisher in your car or insurance on your house. Forethought and preparedness." You know the old adage "it's better to have one and not need it than to need...

CherryRed they live in the 4600 block of South P St. You are probably too young but ask someone if they remember Sheriff Tittle in the 1970s. That was my Dad. The family was in Van Buren where he was on the police force then later on Ft. Smith's for a very long time.

    Kamikaze remembered

Good points Paddy. While the Imperial Japanese Army in asia was without peer in degenerate, animalistic behavior far beyond perversion, the IJ Navy and pilots from all Japanese services were honorable gentlemen. Wouldn't be a bad idea- a memorial to the Kamikazes. Show the snot-nosed kids...

    Original Special Effects

We can look at "The Aviator" and see how they still use full size mock ups and scale models. The flying shots of aircraft that no longer exist was done with extremely large scale radio control aircraft not dinky little ones.
