I found a challenger to my favorite Lemondrop Martini this evening. The restaurant called it a Pink Elephant, but I don't think it was the classic recipe. Mine was orange vodka, lemonade, champagne and cranberry juice with sugared rim. Quite tasty.
Criminy, that's a fantastic suit! Split jacket cuffs with buttons?! Vents on the trousers? I don't think I've ever seen that before in menswear--it's fabulous (and, heck, I want a ladies version of that jacket with those cuffs). The orange and grey combination is great too.
You must do...
Yes, I was saying to my friend that if I had to pick a weakness in the film it would be that all the characters sounded very similiar; the writer's voice was very strong. The dialogue reminded me of a Woody Allen movie in that way, but since the writing was so good I didn't mind that. Another...
Didn't Lauren post some pictures of herself in vintage jodhpurs/breeches awhile back? And there were some really cute pictures from the 20's that somebody posted in the vintage family pictures thread too.
Interesting about the height thing isn't it? Both of my great grandmothers were under 5' too.
I swear all the modern clothes I like are from the UK/Ireland. I've got a friend who goes home to Dublin and comes back with the most amazing stuff. I've joked about giving her money to be my...
I saw Juno tonight and it lived up to all the hype--smart, funny, touching and not cliched at all. I loved it that you thought you knew what was going to happen with several characters and then the writer went a different way. Another theme I adored but it's a big 'ol spoiler so I'll wait to...
I don't care how great Tom's "close companionship" may be, there are places that need to reamin untouched by Lysol.
And I almost did a spit-take reading your comment Scotrace.
I'd nominate William Powell in any of his films, but particularly Libeled Lady (1936). When I re-watched this a couple of months ago I found myself pausing the DVD just to look at one of his fabulous jackets. I'll post pictures and more detailed thoughts when I get home
Seconding Lauren's endorsement of the Kyoto book--I think that book is one of the best deals around when you weigh the picture quality and number of good, clear, usable images against the price. They have a version where the original book is split into two volumes now and I've toyed with...
Which version of The Painted Veil Carter? Garbo or the new one?
Love the Ghostbusters quotes, I use them quite a bit myself particularly "Generally you don't see that kind of behavior in a major appliance", "Dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria!" and "I love this plan! I'm excited...
Ghostbusters is one of my favorites--I don't know how many times I've seen it and it still makes me laugh (particularly the first time Murray comes to Weaver's apartment). The casting is so good--William Atherton and Annie Potts as well as the leads. I so wish Bill Murray made more movies. (I...
Details like that are why I love vintage--it's adorable even before you've ironed it too!
Off topic, but I love what's on your bookshelves--Cindy Sherman, rhyming dictionary. I'm such a bookshelf snoop--maybe I should start a thread "take a picture of one of your bookshelves".
I love the coat MissHannah--it's so graphic.
Vintage Betty--I know of a real fur coat similar to Nikki's that sold at $350 last month and it was considered an especially good price. Hope that helps.
