My avatar is me.
Dixon, my post wasn't so much aimed at you as Marc's original post which started the thread; it really is harsh.
And as for me, my avatar's been talked to death in another thread, someone mentioned "Hank Williams Sr", I kinda like that. Although I was somewhat spooked with...
AND, though a lot of people bash the r&b-tinged records he sometimes made in the early 50s, I think thats great stuff.... Man, from those Mercury sides he did with Johnny Otis, the stark loneliness of his huge tenor sound playing "stardust" in a DEEP echoing studio, with NO acompaniment other...
I'd say it totally depends on whether you're interfering with others' lives. But then that's probably due to the neighborhood where I grew up: everyone was pretty accepting of "different" people. Stomp on someone's new shoes though and you better know how to FIGHT or RUN lol
Just being wierd...
Now That's a perfectly logical choice, sounds good. Putting it on the list...
Well, YEAH... lol Took a ballroom dance in college & enjoyed it a lot (especially Swing) but haven't done much since... getting the itch to start up again.
Man I somehow missed this thread the first time, this is GREAT!! Printed out some to share with coworkers.
"NOW, Good Sir, I shall knock off your hat, and SHAME you into defeat!" lol
Samsa - OH No, hand't seen that with the Pope, that's Too Much lol lol lol
My favorites: Aren't they cuuuute, I'll take em both home :D
Consider this, I just noticed recently: 1940s jazz/r&b singer Louis Jordan and 1980s r&b singer George Benson: Not so much just their looks, but...
Someone posted a few months back, a link to the most amazing swing dance clip I've ever seen, then 2004 Lindy Hop championship winners... here tis, found the clip: (takes a minute to load but Worth it!)

Great thread - well I for one had assumed when I found this board that most folks here into the clothes and all would be "strictly" vintage; good to see there's folks who appreciate both old And new. Certainly not feeling as "different" here at the lounge for only having one vintage aspect to my...
Get out! Wow... I was *positive* I had to be The Only person in the world who could Possibly like DCfC (my fave of the modern bands) -and- swing music lol
Yess! Watch the 1986 movie 'Round Midnight and Call Me when I get through grad school :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

GOOD, nice to know there Are like minds out there. BTW Rosie, you think you get odd reactions to having rotary phones in your home... try having a 1949 jukebox. lol
When I was living just off campus in the apartment, That got some funny looks, but neighbors ended up always wanting to...
Neat post, since I'm currently struggling to make the vintage things I like fit in with the modern things I like. Unfortunately they seem so opposite!
If I were in CA or NY where there were any significant number of folks I could "share the experience" with, I'd like to try going all out...
(I was thinking the same thing when I read that post :) Great minds think alike....
...and then there's us lol
:offtopic: Hmmm... there's a thought. After reading a couple of bio books on him, I'd say Yes - the depression seemed to only come later as a result of the very poor reception if...
Hey where's the "other" button on this poll? can't have a "best dressed" poll without any jazz musicians!
My first choice would be, as I've already PM'ed another lounge member, jazz pianist Thelonious Monk (in the 40s) - next choice would be Cary Grant.
.
Swing High...
Like someone said, other stuff can come up.
I've got time this summer to enjoy this board a lot, but come fall, my schedule will get much busier and may not have time - doesn't mean I won't drop in now & then, or lost interest.
Suspect the same of many other folks who may stop posting...
Oh, just found this one (filed under "Jukebox"): Jukebox Joe's, a 1940s dance clip with some funny kid wearing an outfit that looks like it's got Hostess cupcakes glued all over it lol
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9aw8vrZZTY&search=jukebox
Can someone reccomend sources for rare 1940s movies on VHS/DVD/download? (I'm already searching eBay & Google; can't find it either place.)
Specifically right now I'm just looking for this one movie:
The Powers Girl (1943)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0035206/
