Offtopic, but if we're comparing other artists besides Miller & Goodman, My top 2 faves of the entire swing era were #1 Ellington (1940-42), and #2 Tommy Dorsey :D

FedoraGent & Pilgrim, Great stories! Caledonia, I guess the trick is learning to walk the fine line of not letting your guard Too Far down to be taken advantage of by the jerks, yet still giving strangers the benefit of the doubt if you have no reason to be suspicious...
VintageJess, what an...
That poster of the Gibson Girl holding the motor with the list of random uses is Awesome! :D You don't happen to have a hi-res version do you? That'd be GREAT to poster-print & hang by the workbench...
So, Green Papaya, are you going to try actually using it?

Ugh... You know, I've never had to replace one Yet. Lucky I guess. Don't look forward to it. The way my friend solved his dilemma, for his circa 1950 Capehart console, was he found another identical amp on eBay & re-bought it. I know I have some info somewhere on identifying proper...
Steve, you are just the MAN! Thanks, that's great, there's so many there I never heard, looks like I need to get hep-tified with some Miller CDs. And "April in Paris" has been one of my favorite songs in general by anyone, but his version is just... ethereal...

Hahaha lol lol Not the tubes, the capacitors. (far as I know) And if the caps go, like LizzieMaine mentioned, a transformer can follow. Had that happen to a friend, transformer was in flames; harder to rebuild or replace transformers than tubes & caps. I learn by example :) and never plug...
The server is starting to fill up but did find a great song on someone else's :) Like Miller had a hot side, Goodman could also definitely do sweet: ya gotta love the darkly brooding "Goodbye" (MP3).
Glad you enjoyed, Ed. That's what's so cool about running across the old 78s, you hear stuff...
Sorry, I had no intention to hijack a thread to talk about music-related stuff again :) last post: Bakelite really was used for all kinds of functional items besides jewelry & ornamentals, from household appliances like radios and record players to even working parts in the spark plug rotors of...
Sadly, I just got the rely from Bill: Mike Tobin has sold his business and no longer publishes the list, and Bill is disabled and can no longer do it, and didn't have the list.
CherryRed, I'm sure someone else here knows people/businesses who repair/restore antique radios and can post them...
I can't believe I'm doing this, that one wasn't in my MP3 database yet lol Hey I always wanted to be a late-night jazz DJ...
By special request,
Glenn Miller "I Want to Be Happy"

Those are two real beauts, Absinthe & Leilani! I sure wish I could come over right now & listen to some tunes on either one.
Mine, from I believe about 1940, an RCA Victor deluxe model, $10 from a local flea market, awaiting restoration (augh no time, no time! :( ) currently with stuff...
I got my AMI model "C", half-working, for 1 grand about 5 yrs ago; also there was a fully restored one for 2 grand. (Hey, it's a good "starter"; and SOMEBODY has to root for the "underdog" jukes lol I wish it had come with the Cool Metallic Lady in the brochure, though...)

Auuugh, Apples and Oranges, my friend, Apples and Oranges! Couldn't live without BOTH.
PS. My faves for Miller are the soft stuff cause that's what he was all about, but Before anyone says Glenn Miller couldn't **ROCK** when he wanted to, must check out these tunes!: Click here for an MP3...
Ohh, Sweet! Must be real nice to have one so pristine. I'll bet you folks get a lot of compliments. That's really nice to have one so all-original.
My AMI model C had been converted to 45 rpm in the 1950s, and "did time" on location in various Chicago joints till the 1980s! and it...
Somebody, WHAT is that movie filmed I think in the 1990's or 2000's, that was supposed to take place in the 1930's or so, with that young female Indiana Jones-type adventurer? She REALLY got the look right, Viola, if someone can remember the movie.
Lady Day, cool that the clothes are...
[edit] FedoraGent types faster than me :-)
Bill Turner & Mike Tobin used to put out a free pamphlet with nationwide listings of antique radio repair businesses. You can email him at dialcover@webtv.net <dialcover@webtv.net> & request the list. Or it may be on his site somewhere, which has...
Well maybe I'll be in the minority on this, but although I'm a Huge fan of ladies wearing a suit (with skirt or slacks), I'd have to say I'll pass on the totally dressing like a dude thing. Maybe I just haven't ever seen it tastefully done...
Now this I really go for :D

lol "Trogdor was a man, I mean... he was a dragon-man..." (got that in the ipod MP3 rotation, that whole website is too much, LD you're Too Cool)
Glad you like the phono Lady Day & Tony, too bad I haven't found time to continue running my shortlived home-based restoration biz, I'd surely...
Hi FedoraGent,
Glad you like it!
There many makes and models of this type, but this is a circa mid-40s "Admiral" brand, they turn up on eBay from time to time for fairly cheap, because they always seem to need some amount of restoration, though it's not rocket science long as you have...
