Mojito, those shoes are incredible!! How amazing that they come with a provenance, too.
A while ago I posted on the "cleaning vinatge clothes" thread asking for advice about this 20s dress I found in the attic of our "new" house (new to us-- it was built in the 1820s and had been in the same...
I was looking at some of tattoo artist Angelique Houtkamp's work today (I love her work!) and I totally started thinking about this thread. I'm the farthest thing from goth you could get, but I'm so drawn to her images. They're very vintage 30s/40s pin up inspired, but also very dark and gothic...
That's so pretty! I love cloaks and capes; so elegant and dramatic! Because of the styling details and the washing instructions in the label, I'd guess it to be from the 70s, but I'm no expert.
Here's some info from the VFG label resource...
Yeah, the 20s are fully of dark vampy beauties!
Like the one and only Theda Bara:
I don't dress very darkly myself, but I admire the look.
Have you ever seen Picnic at Hanging Rock? I find its eerie Victorian costuming endlessly inspiring. Plus it's a fantastic film.
Since I buy most of my vintage at antique stores and auctions, I almost never try things on; I've been remarkably lucky in general, but I've also had to send my fair share of too-small pieces on down the line : (
I made one of my first vintage eBay purchases this fall, a beautiful orangey-pink...
Ohhh, Grace's gown is gorgeous! It's almost a minty or seafoam color... so so pretty.
I can't say if blue is necessary my most flattering color, but I kid you not, I have at least ten vintage dresses that are light blue. I guess I'm just naturally drawn to that color; my walls, floor, bed...
This! I was always really self-concious and felt so ugly when I wore "normal" contemporary style clothes. However, once I discovered how elegant and flattering lower hemlines, higher waistlines, luxe fabrics, and intricate detailing were, I felt so much more confident. I'm actually a very shy...
I always come to this thread to drool over all your lovely purchases; may as well contribute.
OK, I went to a little antique fair a couple of weeks ago; there wasn't much in the way of clothing, but I did manage to snatch up these beauties:
A gingham 1950s day dress (I'm a gingham addict...
I really want to try the Coty Airspun Powder, but I'm just curious, what's the difference between the skin tone and the translucent powders? Is the translucent extra thick or something?
I'm a big fan of CoverGirl Lashblast in Dark Brown. It's not very vintage at all in terms of packaging, unfortunately, but it makes my lashes sooo long. I tend to get clumpy lash syndrome very easily, but the Lashblast has a big brush that really separates each lash.
I actually think curlers look cute...
I do rag curls with strips of calico from a 40s dress I hemmed, so I think they're pretty adorable, lol. I've also gone to class and/or around town with a scarf over pin or rag curls if I want them fresh for the evening; reminds me of the Rosie look.
I've...
I went a mall the other day specifically to find some heels for the fall and bought these at Sear's of all places. They were on sale for 30$. I think they'll be good for 30s and 40s looks, though it was the scalloping detail that sold me!

Hair combs are great; I just bought a ton of vintage bakelite ones at an antique fair, and not only are they pretty, but they really hold your hair in place. My hair's fine and slippery, so that's saying a lot!
This picture's kinda blurry/unflattering, but here's how they look:

And...
Oh wow Annie, that dress is magical!
The first thing I thought when i saw it was "silver shoes!". A 50s looking silver springolator or strappy stilletto would be very Hollywood/50s dream-prom looking, though maybe not too comfortable for dancing... Also, some shoe clips might be cute at the...
I'm rather ambivalent about Dita. I guess I don't really know enough about her to have a strong opinion. However, there's no denying her beauty! I like her underdog story too; it's pretty humbling to think about how she went from being a small town stripper to an international symbol of glamor...
Hey Magpye, I know it's easier said than done, but if you want to add some vintage style to your wardrobe, you really should go for it and ignore what others say. Clothes are just clothes. They're pieces of fabric we each choose based on their perceived aesthetic value. No one's gonna die or get...
lol I hadn't noticed the awkward hand placement and that sly grin, oh boy!
Everyone, this blog is a mecca of 60s images; a truly incredible resource!
