    Whipcord - Calvary Twill

I've been wanting to try some wool whipcord stuff. Who has the lowest pricepoint for trousers, of material that would still perform similarly to Filson's or Johnson's?

    On synthetic blends

It's not the lanolin but the fiber's ability to dismiss perspiration. When there's no sweat being retained, the bacteria has nothing to feed on and thus, no way to produce the stink. Alpaca fiber has the same non-stink property as wool but doesn't have lanolin. Cotton is a strong retainer...

    On synthetic blends

Do people really feel the need to wash wool? I don't wash my wool stuff and yet, it doesn't stink. Even when it's a garment that's been worn against the skin, such as merino socks. Try it with yours and see for yourself.

    On synthetic blends

The answer is 42. j/k But simple enough, I love wool, alpaca, camel, etc fibers more than anything. If it has to have a synthetic at all in the mix though, my first choice is polyester. In contrast, nylon seems useless to me. I want as little of that as possible. It's not nostalgia. I like...

Is this button pack on Amazon, optimal for braces/suspenders?

The ones that came with my braces, have a front that's a little flatter than the front of yours. The back looks like a cone that's had its point chopped off, allowing some extra space for the brace tabs in a similar manner as the one HBK posted. This makes the edge look even "sharper" than the...

    Geronimo Brand 1940's Chinos

They look invisible on my browser (Firefox).

Is this button pack on Amazon, optimal for braces/suspenders?

Those don't appear to have a dome on the back. The ones that came with a pair of braces I bought recently, look more optimal as well. Will wait on ordering.

    Navy CPO shirt

Alright, no-go for the Fidelity shirt. Wool content of 75% is not good enough, dammit, not good enough. Non-tartan examples still needed. A variety of colors would be nice too.

    Navy CPO shirt

Where did you see that? Wool garments are supposed to list the actual percentage of wool if it's a blend. VT-ArmyNavy takes the time to do that for their extensive list of surplus wool blankets on their website. I'd think they'd do that for a shirt as well.

    Navy CPO shirt

I'm curious to know what the original style of them was. The first time I'd seen mention of the term 'CPO jacket', it was a plaid Montgomery Wards wool-ish shirt, with haphazzardly-fashioned chest pockets and buttons with an anchor design. It seems that other people refer to these same shirts...

Is this button pack on Amazon, optimal for braces/suspenders?

Does the back of the button resemble the backs of these? "…note also the domed rear of the one on the right: steeply rising away from the point of contact with the fabric to allow the brace tabs room to sit." - Herringbonekid. The fact that the Amazon ad doesn't show anything even close to a...

Is this button pack on Amazon, optimal for braces/suspenders?

Anyone familiar with this button pack? It's for 144 buttons but, the cost is like $10 when shipping is factored in. I don't want to pay that if the buttons are not optimal for use with braces/suspenders (in which case, I wouldn't bother with the purchase at all). Buttons 27L / Suspender - Black

    My Wool & Horsehide Half-belt

I bet that color combo looks fantastic. +1 No leather elbow patches though. -1 Look into having those patches added. That's the area on wool tops that's most vulnerable in regular use.

What do you use to shave?

I use: Vintage Gillette Adjustable double-edge safety razor. Personna USA-made (the blue box) blades. Williams Mug soap. Some cheap shaving brush, don't recall what it is. It gets the lather onto my face and that's all that matters. Been using that combination, for at least a couple of years...

    Pendleton Wilkes Jacket

So would I. Furthermore, there are many good USA-made options that don't even exceed the price of this Pendleton, such as Bemidji, Stormy Kromer, etc. Not for long though, if enough people buy outsourced products like this.

    Stormy Kromer Mackinaw Coat

I prefer this jacket to the Filson, for the reason that it uses buttons (easily repairable if needed) instead of snap closures (can tear out of wool, then it's toast). I also witnessed FIlson's overnight increase of $50 to the cost of their mackinaw jacket. I'm considering Bemidji Woolen...

    Stormy Kromer Mackinaw Coat

The dark brown jacket in their example looks really sharp. Why aren't they offering that color to customers?

first post and winter coat question

Not only is Bemidji a lot less expensive than Filson, I have to give them points for having the pockets fasten with buttons. I don't like snaps and, that's all Filson uses on their pockets. Does anybody here have the Bemidji North Shore Double? I'd like to know if it has any interior...

HOLY GRAIL? /What fedoras are you pining for?

For Summer I want this hat, with a brim width of 2.5": For other times, I want an open crown homburg that looks just like this: Oh, and in size 7&1/8 Long Oval, if anyone has the size in either hat to offer me.

What are my choices for vintage-style wool jackets?

I love wool, especially the melton type and have been spending a lot of time, looking online for a single-breasted wool coat that's not a mackinaw, full-length topcoat, or varsity jacket. I actually do like various aspects of those first two styles but, other traits make them not quite optimal...
