Oh I loved it - but I'm a sucker for stripes. And you're right, it isn't representative of the really special Horrockses designs.

Thanks Fleur - those are spot on! Only available in size 3.5, 7.5 and 8 though. But I'm hoping they'll do another model for this winter coming. And I'll keep searching ebay too. I missed out on a pair for about £8 last year.
Winter footwear
I've been trying to find a pair of this style boot or similar for the winter for the last few years:
A lot of eldery women wear them in this country - my grandmother used to - but I cannot find out where to get them new. Secondhand pairs come up on Ebay every now and then...
When me and my boy went to Paris last month we took vintage luggage and it was exhausting lugging it about whilst everyone around us zipped along with their little be-wheeled things! Next time we will at least buy one of those little trolley things that we can strap the vintage suitcases onto...
Oh thanks both of you. I feel a bit 'normal' at the moment, but I know I'll get used to it!
I used black & white wax and then a bit of hairspray - but I do have a natural kink there too.
Got a better pic now too:
You'll find that a lot of the women here don't wash their hair that often - I do mine every 4 or 5 days. Previous generations only washed it once a week so I can only assume that every day washing was a marketing strategy invented by the shampoo companies to increase revenue!
Pfft. I'm not even touching this.
Oh ok then, just a little ;) Housework isn't 'womanly' and there's nothing 'manly' about a guy who's helpless in the face of a laundry or cooking dinner.
And, as Pompidou pointed out, you'd better be earning a truckload if you want to live in the manner...
Depends on the condition, size, pattern, age etc. Tell us a bit more about it and show us some photos if you have them and we'll help you to work it out :)
The other trick is to whip out your own camera and start taking pictures of them.Follow them around for a few minutes and look at them as if they are a scientific specimen!
