How to get pale, luminous skin?

I discovered what works best for my skin is using a paste (made of baking soda, lavender oil and peppermint oil) to cleanse my face morning and night, with the occasional use of vinegar at night to balance the PH. It has greatly improved my skin. I also use MAC NC15 foundation and follow that by...

    Garment Steamers?

My mom bought a Tobi steamer a couple years ago but never used it. Luckily she passed it on to me :) I use it on all my delicate vintage clothing. It works quite well. The only complaint I have is that sometimes the steam doesn't come out as consistently as I would prefer.

    Cold Cream- Brands and advice!

I tried cold cream (homemade, not store bought) for a couple weeks but my skin still continued to break out. I know it works great for some ladies but not me :( My skin is combination, and although the cold cream did decrease the oil my skin produced, I still ended up with a lot of acne as a...

What's on Top - Bras, panties, garter belts, slips, & stockings

I just bought 17 pairs of vintage stockings at my local antique market ($20 for the lot and some are in their original bags/boxes!!). They were all wrapped up so I couldn't inspect them before buying them, but at that price I decided to take a chance. Some of them are seamed and some are...

Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

I don't tend to get a lot of comments from friends or strangers. I find my family are the only people who normally bother to say anything when I dress vintage. My dad is always saying something like "You have no idea how disconcerting it is to have a daughter older than I am!"

    The Vintage Fur Thread

I don't have a problem with other people wearing vintage fur, but personally it just makes me uncomfortable. I don't wear real fur or leather, and I don't eat meat. I just makes me squeamish and I don't enjoy it. I do love the look of furs though, so I wear a lot of faux furs (including a faux...

The Cleaning Clothes (vintage or other) Thread

If it is a sturdy fabric I normally just gently handwash it with an all natural laundry detergent. If the fabric seems delicate or not the kind of thing you can wash, I get out my moms clothing steamer and use that. It removes smells very well and doesn't tend to be as damaging to the fabric. I...

Can you help me date this item??

It is a very very light cotton I think.

Can you help me date this item??

I'm pretty sure the dress isn't as new as the 1990's. None of the seams are finished or have been sewn with a serger. But thanks for the suggestions :)

    All Hallows Eve - 2010

I somehow convinced my best friend to come with me to see a Halloween themed classical concert. They encourage costumes so we are going to get dressed up too :D

    Canadians in the Lounge?

I'm currently living in Waterloo(Ontario), but I move a lot . Nice to know I'm not the only Canadian on here :) Canada always seems so underrepresented in the Vintage community!

any good 30s 40s set british tv series???

What about Foyle's War, or for something completely different Jeeves and Wooster (the first two seasons are the best. It went downhill after that in my opinion)?

How often do you wash your hair? (guys & gals)

I have long hair that tends to be oily at the roots and really dry at the ends. I wash my hair every 2 or 3 days. Any longer than that between washing and I tend to get breakouts along my hairline. I use Green Beaver shampoo since I've found it is the only natural shampoo that doesn't make my...

Can you help me date this item??

What do you ladies think about this dress? I bought it at an antique show but silly me, I forgot to ask how old it was. The label is very badly faded but I think it reads "Winnie Mae Frocks" (but I can't be quite sure). Sorry, not the best picture but it was the only one I had. It looks almost...

    Best Mascara (for vintage looks)?

I use Suncoat mascara. It has an all natural sugar-based formula. I wouldn't say it is the best mascara but it doesn't make my eyelids swell up (I have a slight chemical sensitivity...) so it is my favourite mascara at the moment! It works pretty well for vintage looks too :)

Thanks for sharing! I think I actually prefer Marilyn as a brunette.

    Waaaa....It/They Do Not Fit!

I bought a vintage dress online once that I had a feeling wouldn't fit but it was too cheap to pass up! I can get it on but it is supposed to be loose fitting so it looks terrible. Now I am stuck with a lovely vintage dress I can't wear :(

How Did You Discover Old Time Radio?

I discovered OTR quite by accident back when I was in high school. I was actually watching Foamy Videos (a foulmouthed cartoon squirrel) and looked at the websites list of recommended links. One of these was to a website that sold OTR recordings. Before that I didn't even know such things were...

    Cold Cream- Brands and advice!

I have a mild chemical sensitivity so I am very limited in what skincare products I can use. I tried the cold-cream/witch hazel method for a while but I ended up breaking out more than normal. I make my own cold cream and have found that although I can't use it everyday it works wonders if I...
