Apparently they got to the US in 1908:
I don't know how long they were being worn in Paris or other locales before that. They seem like something that Victorian women would have worn to me, since they liked mesh gloves, but maybe not.
I'm okay with an almond toe, or even a little pointy toe. But, seriously I ordered a pair of pumps from Banana Republic once that had 2" of point after the end of my big toe.
I looked ridiculous, when I tried them on at work my co-workers laughed. They went back.
You need to be able to...
That generation is known as the GI or greatest generation. My dad was one of them, so I know them well.

These are the people that this country (and also many European countries) great. They were totally up to the challenges of the times...
You know, he is in Germany, so when he is 16 he can drink beer and wine. You might have to buy that drink sooner than you think!
Anyway, welcome to the younger loungers. I am probably old enough to be your mom, but I wore vintage to high school myself. Well let me rephrase that. I either...
Hm, I am with you on this one Root, kinda. Even more annoying than non swing music is when they play music for some other dance and you end up dancing lindy with some guy to disco or something.
I am okay (in theory) with going to a Westie club and there being a variety of music i.e. disco...
Sorry, but you have to wear red. If you don't you'll be an old maid!!!!
Well, actually there were other options in lipstick. Raspberry, shocking pink and even corals.
Just think un-natural, most shades, even those labelled "natural" back then were some lurid red color normally not...
OK I don't really watch TV.
But, what is it with that show? I am 6' tall, would they put me in a bolero jacket, long pants and pointy heels too? I realize the average person on that show has no taste in clothes and needs help, but I hate pointy shoes.
I wear a size 10 1/2 or 11 shoe...
I used to bite my nails like crazy. I stopped in High School by talking my mom into acrylics. I grew them long and then made taking care of my nails a habit. Nail biting over, although sometimes I chew on the loose cuticles, I've learned to keep clippers on hand. Cuticle scissors would be...
My friend has several, one for him, one for his business, one for his band, etc.
I think you might need to have separate e-mails, but I am not completely sure.
Well you can't bend over and hope to fasten the garters in the back. It just won't happen. Stand up as straight as possible and twist.
If there is a way to lengthen the garters in the back that would help.
It also could be that you need longer hose.
I've found that metal garters...
The low heel shoes at 22tangoshoes.com is their practice heel, it is ugly, but is meant for comfort. There are other companies that but Cuban heels on their practice shoes, and they look a lot better.
Tara Tango shoes used to be a lot cuter, like when they had the pink and silver ones (I wish...
Well there were a few long skirts in the 40's, though I suspect mostly in the States where fabric rationing wasn't so severe. I've seen a lovely chrome yellow 40s floor length skirt on a lady that was stunning. For events after 5 o'clock floor length or ankle length is appropriate, right?
I...
Thanks for the warning on the Simplicity pattern. I'll be careful while sewing if it is ever in stock at either of my local JoAnn's.
You could lengthen that coat by a few inches with no problem. I wouldn't try for knee length unless you want to re-draft the whole pattern though.
I decided to grow out my chin length bob a few years ago, because I hate blow drying, and it looked gross without it.
It is now waist length, and I want at least 6" more. I actually spend less time on my hair now, and less money in cuts and styling products.
Thanks for the heads up on this e-vendor. I was wondering how their service was.
I happen to live in a city (Los Angeles) with independent fabric stores and the garment district.
However, since my favorite fabric store, Florence Fabrics went out of business, I am at a loss for good...
I've been known to put workout gloves and knit gloves in my glove box.
As for keys, I used to have only two, but I'm starting to collect.
house
garage
garden gate
car
car trunk (why 2?)
post box
ex boyfriends post box (I forward his mail to him still)
my grandmother's old skeleton...
I prefer an ounce of prevention, or rather prescription pimple gel (antibiotic). Seems to help pimples heal faster too.
If you are visited by a truly monster pimple, and have lots of cash, you can visit the dermatologist and get an injection. The pimple is deflated instantly.
I'd save...
