Hello darling Cherie...lets see your best Evening Wear

Why, thanks! I have about 5 minutes of looking okay before the lipstick starts smearing and the hair goes wild. If we do up Vegas this spring, we'll have to look for a reason to dress up! (LOVE the new avatar, by the way.)

Oooo, Red, the back of that dress can only be described as absolutely awesome!

Hello darling Cherie...lets see your best Evening Wear

You hit the nail on the head, Neecerie. It was from my Vegas trip and the hotel was the Treasure Island. Thanks all for the kind compliments! KittyT - I was all prepared to wear my high heels, but I had a lot of Vegas walking to do, and had already wrecked my feet by then anyway :eusa_doh...

Hello darling Cherie...lets see your best Evening Wear

I adore evening wear, even though I'm a bit of a tomboy :o When I get dressed up I usually go in for the poofy-skirted New Look dress, but I love this wiggle dress to bits. It makes me look about 4 feet tall, but I forgive it because it makes me look like I actually have a decent chest lol...

    Do you read WW2-set fiction?

I do! - or at least I try to. I think I'm very picky about what I read in the WWII genre. I usually need to get word of mouth recommendations when I want to read something set in that era. I find when I do searches on Amazon.com it spits out a lot of WWII romance fiction or WWII stories...

    In The Photobooth

Oh yes, I forgot Malls of America! We DO have similar taste... I think kitsch is wonderful, too. I refer to the 50s and 60s around here as The Bronze Age ;)

    In The Photobooth

I'm a little late to this thread, but vernacular photography is a huge interest of mine. Square America is fabulous, so if anyone else is interested try these other sites as well: Bighappyfunhouse - the absolute best of the best, as far as I'm concerned. The owner usually puts up 2 or 3...

"Girl 27" - rough documentary on 1937 MGM

Thanks very much for the link! I'm always on the lookout for something like that to read. It's true... books about semi-esoteric stuff might not be Pulitzer caliber writing, but it's the little anecdotes and stories like the Tom Mix one you mentioned that make those books worthwhile :)

    Halloween Cinema?!

Hey! Session 9! I'd completely forgotten that one... what a great, overlooked little film. The feeling I got listening to the voice on the tapes in that movie reminded me of the first time I saw The Exorcist. It's one of those moments you just sit there with your mouth open over how...

"Girl 27" - rough documentary on 1937 MGM

lol Well if that's the way you want it! Is it a book on Fox you're reading? If so, any good?

    Halloween Cinema?!

There's a movie from the late 80s called Lady in White about a boy trying to solve the murder of a girl that took place years earlier. Though the time line of the film goes through Xmas, it starts out at Halloween and has a very gloomy atmosphere. Vintage-y feel too... I believe it takes place...

"Girl 27" - rough documentary on 1937 MGM

Oh, sorry! Yes, I was being a bit confusing there! That was just a roundabout way of completely agreeing with you about the heavy storyline :D

"Girl 27" - rough documentary on 1937 MGM

Definitely not! I think some of the backstories hinted at in Girl 27 regarding the shadiness of the movie studios would make a great film by itself. The way the movie studios protected their A list stars (fascinating aside with Loretta Young and Clark Gable's illegitemate daughter in the film)...

    MST3K

Favourites: The Touch of Satan for the seemingly NEVERENDING opening credits and the idiot female lead: "This is where the fish live!" The Giant Spider Invasion "Packers... Woooo! Packers!!!" and the constant ribbing on Steve Brodie, who had seen better days. Anyone remember the...

"Girl 27" - rough documentary on 1937 MGM

Bump! I knew there had to be a thread on this! Has anyone else watched this documentary? I managed to catch it late one night this weekend. Interesting, if predictable story regarding the coverup... I've heard before how well Buron Fitts, the DA, was paid off during his reign. Patricia...

    Shearer evacuated

Well, thank you all again for all your well wishes :) I was lucky and in no real danger - mostly just an inconvenience in being displaced for the better part of a week. Like Tony said, it was much cooler today with a few sprinkles here in San Diego. The bad news is the air quality and...
