    Secret Weapons

My toenails are never a normal color. Red would be approaching boring for me - right now they are turquoise with silver glitter. Last summer's Packard meet they were Packard blue. I did alternating red and green for Christmas and red and silver with one big toe blue with silver stars for the...

A question for the red heads...

Much to my horror, I find that orange and coral look good on me. Despite the red hair. Orange! I think I would rather go with pink...

    Not able to dress vintage?

The Aris Allen shoes look like what my grandmother wore in pictures from the 40s and 50s. She was a polio survivor and walked with two canes (even when hiking the Appalachian mountains, which she did quite often. A formidable woman, my grandmother.). She also required a lot of support and...

    Handsome Fellas!

Okay, my top two: Yul Brynner (in large part because he was a gentleman. My mother used to tell me how he would come backstage after every single show - she danced in The King and I with him - and thank everyone, from the stars to the chorus. Big stars never do that.) And Vincent...

    Plus Size Vintage

You people had to mention Bettie Page, didn't you? I had never seen their things before. Now I have to decide between fixing the car and buying new clothes :p Seriously, this Powder Room is a dangerous place.

Mid Atlantic people check in here

Not compared to South Carolina, which is where I moved from! (For one thing, it doesn't get down to 8 degrees in South Carolina.) :)

favorite cars of the golden era

There seems to be a small but vocal minority in the Packard Club who appreciate the early 50s models. Not nearly as many as go for the 30s or 40s, of course, but I tell myself that means more chance for us to acquire the cars we want. Oh, and I love "all hat, no Packard!"

    Cute Vintage-y Shoes

I LOVE one of the first pairs. Which does not even come close to fitting into my budget. Evil, evil thread...

favorite cars of the golden era

'51 or '52 Packard (I used to own a '51, so I might be biased, but they're great cars and good drivers). Especially if I can get one in purple - sorry, "amethyst." Or a '40 or '41 Packard Darrin convertible. Those things are gorgeous. (And so is the price tag, unfortunately.) Oh heck...

What Do You Want For Christmas This Year?

A Ruxton. And an assortment of Packards, a mid-30s Cord, and how about a nice Bugatti? Oh, and hats. And the hat boxes to store them in.

Does it count if you're fifteen miles from the NC line? I'm just over the border into Virginia. I've lived in Raleigh, Charlotte, and Winston - just working my way slowly north again.

Virginia here. Although I am still adjusting to the idea of being in the Mid-Atlantic and not the South. (I just moved. These things take time.)

Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

I wear hats at the drop of a hat (sorry, couldn't resist) and pair them with 40s or 50s style dresses - and invariably get comments or compliments. If I'm at a classic car meet I get asked to pose with random cars. Which is fun if it is the car's owner and they know that I "go" with their...

    Sewing Lessons & FAQ

So this is a seriously late reply, but just in case it's useful to someone else: This looks similar to the vintage Singer I have, and I hate to say this, but... Most mid-century and later Singers were made with aluminum disks in the machinery. Aluminum warps. So my Singer does the same...

Everyday Women of the Golden Era

Actually, it wasn't just that the people were smaller. The machines really were massive! I can't drive my modern SUV while wearing a hat - there's no room. But I can drive even the smallest Packard with room to spare for the biggest hat I own. (And really, if you're going to wear a...

New Ladies and Gents Step Forward

Howdy all, I'm a 40s and 50s fan - and it's the cars that got me into the fashion. (Anyone have a '41 Packard Darrin they want to part with? No? Didn't think so. Unfortunately.) My thing is hats. I have more hats than any one woman could possibly need. And I am always looking for more...
