Just look at those shapes!
Take away all the frills, get to the basics and you have very vintage-looking garments. I shall be interested to see how...
You missed such a wonderful evening last night, ol' bean - the band was amazing, and such fun! And meeting your lovely wife was a huge pleasure.
That said, how can you top making a V/day cake with your daughter? I bet Edna grinned like a Cheshire cat when she got home! :D
Congratulations Miss Sis - I hope you will both enjoy many long years of happiness together. And I wholeheartedly agree on the floral front! For us it's plain walls, ceilings and flooring. I can't bear patterns,esp. florals! lol
Are you implying that the furnishing is done by the women? In our house, not so.
Bedroom; the bed was mine (modern, wrought iron), the rocking chair and trunks were K's. The wardrobes are built in and the chest of drawers & side tables/bedside lamps we chose together. The flooring (seagrass)...
On TV;
The new series of Life On Mars, which began last night -brilliant, utterly brilliant!
Time Team
QI
Mythbusters
Poirot
And occasionally, Sumo TV for the bizarre 1950s public information films.
On DVD;
Farscape - just finished series three, now about to start four. THE best...
Your wife sounds like a wonderful humanitarian, Marc. K and I buy things for the Third World (toilets, clean drinking water, training, educational books, trees etc.) or donate to Action Aid in each others' names instead of buying presents. We both strongly believe that we should help each other...
Once again Elaina is the voice of reason (one of them in this thread anyway). It must also be remembered that when tightlacing did occur it was by a minority of very wealthy women who had nothing to do all day other than look pretty. No woman that worked could have achieved extreme tightlacing...
I've lived in a house built in the 1400s which was pretty much trouble-free, apart from needing to rethatch the roof every 20 or so years - not a problem I ever had to deal with. I've lived in a house built in the 1600s - same as above. My last but one house was built around 1910 and that too...
Vettriano is one of my all time favourite artists. Did you know that the National Gallery refuses to exhibit him on the grounds that he is not considered a 'serious artist'? I could go on and on about his work for ages - there is so much depth to it! :D
OK, so it's theatre and not cinema but I have to share this with you. If anyone gets the chance to see it, then do - it's amazing!
Trafalgar Studio, London.
I managed to get a sneaky photo using my phone, hence the low quality. This was as the audience was taking its seats. Jason and...
I just love my Esterbrook SJ (c.1950):
At the moment I am using a 9550 nib but I am considering changing it to something slighter broader. I have the most wonderful ink too:

I'm using Umber, which is a fabulous dark green...
[EDITED FOR CONTENT -HJ ]
Frankly, that stinks IMO. I understand not giving oneself immediately and that some people are very reserved but to be so closed off as to deny another person the chance to shine, seems just horrible. That whole Alpha Male thing...forget it. I don't want to be...
