In my experience mold grows where it is both fed well and undisturbed. That usually means a dirty or greasy jacket in a dark damp place. As I've previously posted about, I wash almost all of my jackets in a front-load washer (cold water, woolite, inside out and zipped), and then air dry them...
There are the usual suspects-- Insurrection, Johnson Leathers, and the various boutique A2 makers.
I would also nominate Dena at greatleather.com. She has been working on some really historical jackets (check her blog), knows flight jacket construction, and is very detail oriented. I've also...
You could be right. To my eye, the cuffs in the OP's shot look like the ones linked below, on the Schott 135's "winter sister" jacket the Schott 136. I called them "boloney cut", by which i mean that the seam for the cuff assembly is cut at a slant relative to the axis of the sleeve.
Forgive...
Cut, color, and the boloney-cut cuff trim seem to match the Schott 135, which is a vintage but non-halfbelt style. The beard covers where the breast pocket might be, alas.
Early BR stuff was often military surplus-- which means the sizes ran from about XS to about M by US standards. Getting large corporate scale would have been impossible for the new owners without moving into commercial contract-produced merchandise. America has also become about 25% fatter since...
I own a Belstaff Panther, and would definitely not want to lay a scooter down while wearing it-- it's about .8mm lambskin, with the only protection being elbow and shoulder patches that are just one additional layer of lambskin. Sadly, the ruralist, hiker/rider/farmer Belstaff company of Steve...
The classic Lee short jacket is the Storm Rider, which at various times came lined with blanket material. flannel,. and various fleece-style materials. Also many variations in collar linings.
For more, try...
Oddly enough, lack of a label might be a clue. Imported clothing after 1968 must have an origin label. US made goods do not (though it's often added for marketing purposes). So if there is no marking reading "Made in West Lobovia", it might mean a US jacket.
First Step: determine country of origin from labels. Check pockets, the liner, and other obscure places. I once found a cloth style tag riveted to the back of a metal snap on a Cooper jacket. AMF cut all kinds of deals during their period of ownership (69-81), and bought clothing from both the...
Pegasus
I believe Pegasus offers such a coat, which is available on ePrey right now, with a BIN of $1390:

This is an Avirex I encountered at a Connecticut Flea Market that seems to be obscure enough that its art could be real. It shows what looks like a Chinook, references "HMM-564", which is apparently a Marine helicopter support squadron, and carries the slogan "Harrah has better ideas", and the...
Collar shaping
I've shaped numerous collars-- including one of the infamous Cooper A2 "disco collars"-- after washing the whole jacket in cold water and allowing to air dry in position. This works not only for A2 and G1 collars, but also to get a nice outward curl out of the mandarin collars...
Pecard's one of several choices
You don't mention if the leather is dry, or simply losing its color.
In my experience treating about 25 jackets, and doing a fair amount of experimentation, if it is dry, the best initial treatment is Lexol. Lexol is a water-based oil emulsion that penetrates...
Filmmakers won't let the truth get in the way of a good story...
It's not surprising that Director Tony Scott would treat uniform details casually-- he has long been noted for an amazing casualness with the truth in his films. Oddly, his brother Ridley Scott is noted in the movie business for...
Depends on what you want
A little tough to tell from one photo, but in general the Bean jacket seems to have considerable extra sleeve length, body length, and chest roominess. Many people wear their jackets that way-- a style that fashion writer Bruce Boyer famously said "fits where it...
I have not found that Lexol or Pecard's darkened goat or cowhide flight jackets to any significant degree for more than a day, but the one jacket I treated with Obanauf's did turn a definite shade darker, and also looked "thicker" as a result. I used the Obenauf's waxy compund in the tub, but...
FWIW, I have machine washed about 25 different leather jackets, ranging from mall jobs in pigskin to Sixties-Seventies vintage goat and horse, without ruining one. It improves patina, generally returns the leather and lining to clean and odor-free, and does not shrink the jacket if done...
I just did this!
Just did exactly what the original poster has asked about, with an Eighties horsehide Vanson Enfield. I needed two inches, since i have a gorilla sleeve length of 37 inches.
After looking at several methods with Dena at GreatLeather.com (wonderful artisan leatherworker, by...
In looking to add a synthetic fur collar to a jacket, I've unearthed two online sources at reasonable prices:
The first is definitely a Combloc-era surplus item, generously sized from what I can see. The parka it is attached to is the distinctive pre-unification East German “raindrops” camo...
