The teardrop is more rounded in the back, whereas the diamond has a pronounced pinch to it, that does does not necessarily run down the back of the crown. However, there was a thread a while back showing a pic of James Dean wearing a double-bashed (front and back) fedora. Still, they aren't...
Adventurebilt Hats, made by Steve 'Fedora' Delk. If you're not familiar, he's the guy who made (and is still making, I think) the hats for "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull".

As I've mentioned in the Indy thread, I recently received my first Adventurebilt. I wasn't really digging the center-dent look, and it lacked the stiffener to hold a good crease. So, much to my wife's horror ("What are you doing with your $300 hat!!!"), I put it in the kitchen sink, filled it...
Dang, dude, that really sucks! Sounds to me like Steve needs a business partner here in the states to help out! I think I'll wait to get my 2nd AB before I send this one down to Mississippi!
I'm not nearly as experienced as the vast majority of gentlemen (and ladies) at the Lounge, but I tend to look for the brown sweat bands first. Thus far, that seems to me to be the easiest sign of a decent vintage hat. I look at the quality of it, the integrity of the stitching, whether or not...
My brand new AB!!! Well, one of them...
I've been waiting for what seems like forever to post my own AB somewhere! I just visited COW to show off, now here I am! This is my new ToD, purchased from Nevada Jones, that arrived today. It was looking a little frumpy when I pulled it out of the...
I haven't had any experience with stock sweats from Akubra, but the new one that Optimo put in my Fed Dlx is absolutely luxurious. It's relatively thick, soft as butter, and a bit wider (so it seems) than others I've seen.
Thanks, Art, I'll be in touch about the hat once I'm able. And... the Air Force takes pretty good care of us, so I'm looking forward to the next trip over to the sandbox! Thanks for the well wishes, Art and Colby Jack.
Feeling a little bummed...
Unfortunately for me, it looks as though I may have to wait a LITTLE longer for a VS. The wife found me another AB (already made TOD bridge style, as I continue to wait for the Crystal Skull AB I ordered in Sept) and purchased it, thereby disposing of the funds that...
Thanks, Art. I've been admiring (which is the polite way of saying "drooling over") your work since I first saw them last summer as my interest in hats gained momentum. I knew Steve and Marc of AB have been swamped with orders as of late, wasn't sure if the Indy 4 hype had translated into more...
Thanks for the replies, all. It remains to be seen whether I can get the purse strings loose enough to get one, but I have my heart set on something resembling a Savoy or Rt 66-ish hat (I believe Carter had one posted in the "Art Fawcett Hall of Fame" thread). Here's hoping!!!
Thanks again...
What's the wait time on an Art Fawcett these days? Trying to get the wife to buy me one for my birthday (hard sell at "$300 for stupid hat!"), and I'd like to get a time frame. She's about had it waiting to see what I'll get for the $260 I spent in September on an AB that has yet to show up...
Did any of you watch the special series he did a while back, "Feasting On Asphalt"? That was a pretty good show, not sure if he's still doing it. Gotta love all those backwater places that serve up the best comfort food you can find!
I believe it's also true that past Masters can be asked to temporarily officiate in the absence of the the WM, and wear their own chapeau while doing so. Does that sound correct to any of you old timers? I have only just completed my FC at Lodge #25 Rapid City.
