As a man who wears a uniform everyday, I say it's about damned time they take some pride in the uniform. Each individual reflects on the whole, whether good or bad, and personal pride translates to unit pride, and commands the respect of those around. Top marks for demanding the best from the...
Thanks for the replies and compliments, gentlemen! It's nice to hear from such esteemed Loungers as yourselves:D Unfortunately, no I do not have any 'before' photos of the hat, though it looked pretty much an early Open Road. It was in good shape when I bought it (as evidenced by the...
I picked up a Dobbs Forty in Texas this summer on a TDY to Sheppard AFB. It was shaped with a cattleman's bash, small for me, and kinda dirty. But, the antique shop was only asking $15 with the original box, so how could I resist? I gave the Coleman fuel treatment, after removing all the...
Indeed it is, the whole lot of it!!! Especially the sweatband and ribbon work. The sweatband has to be cut at just the right angle so that the reeded portion is longer than the part closest to the crown and bells out, making a comfortable surface to rest against your head. A little bit off...
Thanks for the tip, Reetpleat. When I pulled off my brim flange for the first time, it was a fair bit sharper of a turn-up. However, given the width of the brim itself, I felt it looked better (on me) with a more subtle flip, and a relatively flat/drooping front. More relaxed, more sun...
ps: I think this hat only cost me $8.00, plus $2.50 for the ribbon and $6.50 for the sweatband. $17.00 and a couple hours of sewing... not too shabby!
Regards, Andy
It's been a while since I've posted in 'Hats', but I'm back, and I finally took some pictures of the first hat I renovated on my homemade hatblock. It's not quite Indy, more 'Indy-esque', and I'm pretty proud of it (being my first attempt!). The hat I picked up at an antiques mall here in...
I recently got orders to PCS to Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska. I'll be moving the family up there towards the end of April, and wondered if there were any Loungers in that area, or if anybody knew what 'fedora resources' there might be in that area.

Cool thread for us GI types. Question: how many of you prior-service fellows still keep your watches on 24-hour time? It's funny, I can't stand to have mine on 12-hour anymore. Brainwashing, I tell you!

Don't quote me on this fellas, but I believe Steve has a prior-to-fortune-and-glory-returning-customer discount policy. Some thing like "those who purchased an AB when they were still a relatively unknown quantity, prior to Indy 4 vendor announcement, will continue to pay the original price on...
Well, upon reviewing my own words, perhaps I was a bit exclusive. I should have said the lack of faith can and will CONTRIBUTE to crumbling of national social structure. It will not be the single cause of a society's downfall.
I can also appreciate the arguments that such an event as the...
This thread went in a juvenile direction very quickly, IMHO. I'll be the first to admit, I'm not terribly religious and rarely pray of my own accord. It's usually only when the folks ask if I'll say grace when visiting for the holidays. What is asinine about this is the assumption that...
Lucky dog:D I didn't find COW or FL until mid-August '07, so it took me a little longer to jump on the bandwagon:( Oh well, it'll get here eventually. THen I can finally get my first AB sent back for a resize/shape! I still haven't been able to wear the foolish thing because it's just too...
When did you order yours, Alan? I know Steve came out a while back and said that pre-November orders would be out in time for the premiere, but last I heard at COW he was just starting June orders. I didn't get my order in until 15 September, so I'm hopeful but not assured.
PS - JtL, can't...
