    Guitars

That's a copy of a Weissenborn guitar made in Paracho, Mexico for Superior Guitars. They are used strictly for lap style playing with a slide and make some beautiful sounds in the right hands (not necessarily mine, but David Lindley does excellent work on one).

Great looking Gibson! I've never seen that model before. Here's my "family". As you can see, my tastes run more towards the acoustic.

    House histories?

Our house, built in 1947, has one of those hatches too. Unfortunately when they remodeled the kitchen shortly before we bought here they walled over the other side if it so now it is a sliding door to nowhere. Too bad they couldn't have designed the kitchen to retain it. It would be so handy...

favorite cars of the golden era

Love the woodwork on a Chrysler Town and Country. The convertible in the background would be even nicer. Although I don't know what make car this is, I really like its "passengers".

    Backyard barbeques - 'member them?

I've just been scanning some old family pictures and came upon this one of my dad proudly posing beside the BBQ he built. This was a little before my time, probably 1950 or so. We used to have the book from Sunset Magazine that the plans for this came from.

Vintage professions you'd like to see come back.....

I know there are still a few around but good repair for shoes, small appliances & electronics are becoming harder to find. You used to be able to get such repair services in any small town. Now you often have to ship them by mail to get the job done. We have become such a throwaway society...

    House histories?

Wow, amazing house! A house like that looks like it will last a thousand years, as opposed to the "build 'em fast, build 'em cheap" drywall junk they're putting up nowdays.

    House histories?

Nice house and interesting story! Looking out my window at nothing but snow it's warming just to see the palm trees in that picture. Any other stories out there? Famous or infamous occupants or deeds commited in your house? Long family histories? Hauntings?

Vintage professions you'd like to see come back.....

Although neon is still around to some extent, it is mostly in the form of bar signs for beer. I'd like to see more of the elaborate "moving" neon signs of old. I still clearly remember being taken to a neon sign shop of an acquaintance of my dad when I was a kid. It was mesmerizing to see...

A treasure trove of Golden Era docudramas

We don't have a television, just a video projector, so I didn't realize these had been shown on TV. I'd really like for at least some of these to come out on DVD.

    House histories?

Last year we got a piece of mail addressed to a former resident of our house, recognized the last name and looked them up in the phone book. When they came to pick up their mail they were able to answer some questions about the original design of the kitchen which was remodeled a year or two...

A treasure trove of Golden Era docudramas

Not long ago I found a VHS tape of a program called "The March of Time" in a thrift store. Apparently they were produced from 1935 to 1951 as kind of a newsreel feature to show in movie houses before the main event. This particular tape had features on men's and women's fashion, boxing...

    House histories?

I think it's Mission Revival style. It started in California with an interest in the Missions there and was the first architectural style that spread from the west to the east. Most of that style is in the southwest but it did make its way to some odd locations. There are a couple examples in...

    Loungers' Pets

Here's our lovable mutts Dinah: And Woody: They're both pound pups and a quite a comedic team. They keep us laughing and on our feet. We believe Dinah is part blue heeler and part lab and Woody is some kind of hound mix. They are instant death on stuffed toys, eviscerating them in minutes...

    House histories?

Wow, great looking house! Kind of has the Alamo thing going on that was so popular in that era. Our Carnegie Library, built in 1905 has the same profile on its roofline. And how lucky that you were able to move back into the house your wife's relatived occupied.

    House histories?

I was wondering whether any of you forumites might be willing to share any histories of the house you live in. Several years ago while tearing out plaster in a closet we converted to a half bath I found this note inside the wall (last name deleted to protect privacy of the family) I know...

New Ladies and Gents Step Forward

Greetings all, I discovered a community of like-minded individuals while Googling about the Clifton's Cafeteria in Los Angeles and decided to stick around. My wife and I moved to Moscow, Idaho about seven years ago from southern California. Our blood still has not thickened enough to not feel...

    What are you listening to?

I spent the morning listening to local crooners and songbirds. Bing Crosby (Spokane, WA - 80 miles north), Mildred Bailey (Tekoa, WA - 50 miles north) & Lee Morse (Kooskia, ID - 86 miles south).

    Californians Please check in!

Though I'm no longer in California 47 years in the same house in West Covina should count for something. We sold it in 2000 to move to San Diego to take care of mother-in-law. Three years later she went into assisted living & we were suddenly in the housing market in the middle of the real...
