That has often been a topic of discussion in the squadrons I have been in. When I was the Safety Officer in my last squadron, a Junior Officer tried to explain to me that wearing the leather jacket in the cockpit was not allowed. I asked him to find it in writing that it was not allowed. He...
I don't fly a jet, but I wear my issued leather flight jacket (G-1) when I fly my helicopter in cold weather. People tend to forget that it is an issued piece of flight gear that is meant to be worn in the cockpit.
A few from 'Hot Shots.' The thing I find most funny about movies like this and 'Down Periscope' is that the uniforms are more correct than in high budget "realistic" movies.
Unbroken finally made into a movie

Since the Navy has done away with all uniforms with ties, the exception being our Service Dress Blues (SDB). Aviators commonly wear their leather flight jackets instead of their SDB jacket around the office, on the rare occasion they wear their blues. It is not an "official" uniform, but it is...

I watched 'Emperor' yesterday and thought that it was horrible. Both for military and historical accuracy. The first sign I look for in a military movie is the collar devices. The really bad movies always have the wrong collar devices. This movie is no exception, they are all wearing the...
If your are looking for the notched style dog tag, I am sure that almost any Army surplus store carries those. If you are looking for the round tags try these guys http://usmcwwiidogtags.com/
Is it from oil and dirt build up? I have seen many Aircrewmen wear jackets that they have never cleaned look that way. I would recommend an Oxyclean soak for 24 hours and then gentle cycle in the wash machine.
