    Reissue A-2, Cockpit USA

I thought the gunners, tail, waist and ball wore B-3's. The front of the B-17 was heated and the crew mostly wore A-2's. When you see period crew pics there is always a mix of B-3's and A-2's, with officers in A-2's. Oh, and love your Cockpit A-2!

Scandalous!: Nylon Better than Leather for Wearing?

Wine vs grape juice, imho. That's why leather works for me, aesthetically, if not practically.

    Famous People in Flight Jackets

I wondered if that might be his big brother's jacket. Thanks for the detail; it makes it all the more poignant.

    Same bike, same jacket...

Ha! I was also thinking, maybe there's not much to do in Coos Bay if you're still riding the same bike, sporting the same jacket that you were 40 years ago:)

Flight Jackets for dummies...please skool me...

I'd like to put in my plug for LL Bean. I have worn my 46 goatskin A2 for 20+ years and I receive compliments on the patina. I don't exactly sport a military-cut figure but I get satisfaction out of wearing a legendary jacket that I could replace from ebay for $100. If you catch the "fever"...

Attaching Patches on Leather Without Thread ?

Not sure about this. It seems like there might be a lot of ways to go wrong. An adhesive strong enough to overcome the oils in a given leather might also result in damage if you tried to remove it. Oils are essential to the "health" of leather but are generally antagonistic to adhesives. In the...

Irvin book. Has anyone read it?

One C.T. Alexander reviewed this book on Amazon stating' "Written without much in the way of Irvin. There were very few quotes and personal stories - but many conjectural notions of how Irvin would have felt. A tertiary resource at best."

B-2s! (The furry cap, not the furry jacket)

I would like to change the color of the fleece on my B2 to RAF honey-tan from the USAAF white because I sport an ELC prewar Irvin and it would be nice if the fleece color matched. But I have no idea where to begin finding a dye or pigment to make the switch. Experience with dying fleece, anyone?

How to resist buying another jacket?

Xopher, No! No! No! That relationship would be doomed from the start. Next thing you know you would resent her for being like a Mom (saying no) and your sex life would go out the window. It would be a short step to divorce, dividing up possessions and guess what? You lose the TR3, the side...

How to resist buying another jacket?

I used to buy high-end baseball gloves at $100 - $200 a pop on ebay. After I retired from men's slo-pitch softball, my rationale was gone and I began feeling somewhat uneasy spending money on something I couldn't use. Then I discovered that ebay had an "add to my collection" button. Now when I...

Greetings and my new (old) G-1

I'm impressed: you did your research, made your purchase and now you're following-through with conditioning, etc. asking questions and getting advice. I think maybe "the hook is well-set" and that now you might have a new charming obsession collecting leather jackets - or at least drooling over...

What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

'04 ELC BoB. Drove to Seattle with the window down. Perfect. (Unless I had a biplane and knew how to fly it.)
