From the straw types thread:

Paribuntal (China) > Bakou straw in a wider, looser weave often used in millinery and dress hats.
Baku is a body straw hat made of Philippine fiber which is exported to China, and woven by Chinese experts. It is an extremely lightweight, porous...
The good thing is that the pics were of good quality, and will help me in my task. I also just received the euro model I found on French eBay, which helps me better understand the cutter assembly.

Bump. Received the Bailey U-rollit today. It is a beauty, and light as expected, but quite stiff with "sizing." It will be my favorite straw western (better than my Resistol Genuine Panama OR clone) when I get the brim right. I unfortunately can't shape it without steam because I am afraid...
Here is the link and a couple of cropped auction photos. This one looks like a woman's hat to me.

I will advise upon receipt ;-). Yours is a much more intriguing find though. I saw a Resistol "continental" hat for sale in eBay recently that had some features in common. It was styled as a much older hat and had a pretty convincing liner design, but also had a plastic plastic protector. Did...
Most people think of "Sincerely" as cold also, but it actually means "without wax," and was once a closing for correspondence with close friends and family - which would have been unsealed in antiquity - rather than business acquaintances -which would have been sealed with a signet ring and wax...
Very nice find. Probably, you could replace the straps & screw a canvas/kevlar style outdoor seat cushion to it to make it a little easier pull to the lake ;-)

Me too guys! I focus primarily on lightweights, but do not recognize this hat. The cloth covered leather sweat (if that is what it actually is) reminds me of a Knox Vagabond I found a while back, and my Dobbs Doublelife (being a pinhead does have some rewards). See below.
I am hoping...
CRM, have you ever tried Shaggy Manes? I used to pick them all the time when I was a logger in far Northern California & Southern Oregon. As for the morels, they are great dried, and taste a little smoky. My mother-in-law brings me some each year, and I crumble them into soups, stews & the...
This is what I think you are really looking for based on all of the above. A true 1960's low crown cowboy hat, right brim (but no binding).
This should stretch easily to 7 1/8 at your local western store (or buy a stretcher & do it yourself).
This is a great deal on this hat at this...
I have to second Ole here. They are actually quite thin, and this is what Langenberg and others (see Ermatinger's book) have done to achieve that goal. It is a doffer or duffer, if I remember correctly (help me hatters, I don't have it handy).

I should have thought of that, but it didn't even cross my mind. I had no contemporary blocks before obtaining these, and just assumed it was for a functional reason.

I will defer to you Ole, no better ideas from me. I said "a good filler" generically because I could not think of one that I like.
As for glue, I use Titebond III for my projects, but have not used it on a block (except an ancient one that shattered in shipping and that I have not used since...
