I like 'em like that! Maybe I'll bite. As previously mentioned, there are advantages to being a pinhead. Also, to having a hat stretcher and some blocks... "Faint hat never won fair lady."

I am actually convinced that they are covered with woven straw hat bodies. The patterns vary block to block, and there is no uniformity of pattern that comes with something like a mass-produced fiberglass webbing as used for bone casting. I believe these coverings are what they appear to be -...

Ok, so some things in the golden era were not too cool...

Never knew what"now you're cooking with gas" meant until I had an electric range. Then I got it. My grandmother swore by wood cooking stoves - I have not had the pleasure but if it is even close, I really do get it now gran.... "Faint hat never won fair lady."

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

Guess it's not too late for me then. Here's the slightly furry Cervo I'm wearing in "the" (westcoast) city today. Poor pic, but it's near black brown, black ribbon, unreeded. Can't really date it because they seem to "make 'em like they used to." I like this one a lot. "Faint hat never...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

I think I paid $5-$15 for it, shipped. Figured it was worth it as a novelty hat, and in decent felt, to boot. See what she thinks of THIS 4x rodeo queen hat that I tweaked for another holiday. My 2-year old little girl had the complimentary costume... Glad to help add to your...

Thanks for asking, I was gonna... Here's one that passed me by on eBay while I was broke, at an amazing $77 - a rounding jack in a configuration I've not previously seen. "Faint hat never won fair lady."

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

I'll be wearing this fairly often until after Christmas. It's a 3x Resistol rodeo (queen or clown, probably) hat that I picked up rather cheaply in a small size for the occasion. I cannabalized an inexpensive Santa hat for the band, and popped the stitches in the sweat. It's not beautiful...

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Thanks for the input Ole. As always, very insightful. I didn't note who advised re the 1946 Canadian maple leaf, but that is also appreciated and noteworthy. I collect lightweights, and have two Resistol Krushables. They are fairly rare (it took me some time to find the ones I have in my...

    Post New Hats Here!

No info on the maker, but I understand that the oilskin backing to the sweat was only popular in the very early 1950's until it was learned that it caused damage to the leather. That and the unreeded sweat, high crown, liner imprint, sweat embossing and "reverse" taper lead me to date it late...
